There could be several explainations. 3 million rounds is not that huge of an order for the DOD. Hopefully, this is just for training and not price or supply manipulation.

3 million rounds is NOT a big purchase. 1 container often holds that many rounds. Sounds like they are having samples on hand for familiarization training possibly.

They want to buy up parts kits as well!

Why in God's name would the US gov need AK/PKM/SKS/Makarov/Etc... used parts from parts kits when they could order new parts from anywhere?

And, what large arsenal of foreign weapons are they stocking up to "maintain"?

You know full well this is intended to deny US access to ammo, weapons and weapon parts.

To all: I would suggest that this thread belongs in GD. Although it does talk about ammo and firearm parts, it's really an issue that is important to all of us and it would get a lot more exposure in GD.

Some of it could be for training. Pretty sure some branches of the military keep and train on foreign weapons and even issue those weapons for certain missions. As far as the parts kits goes I guess they might need to repair those same arms from time to time?
