Ok...should I get the Hospitaller or the 100 years war sword?

I was really wanting the French Medieval Sword (100 year war era)....but now I am really wanting the Hospitaller. They are both in the same price range...about $800-$850 bucks. I have always liked the Hospitallers and their history and this one would look sweet with an oxblood grip.

    http://www.albion-swords.com/swords/...italler-xa.htm

But this French medieval sword is supposed to be a really agile cutter and pretty stout working blade.

It will be January or so before I place an order. I have a money saving plan that is very simple....cut out fast food and grocery shop smarter! Which one would you take? The heavier longer Hospitaller or the more agile sharper French sword?

Um, wouldn't you be better off putting that money in the bank or something?

Dude... you talk about having trouble with your course load in school and you're f--king with blades?

Forget that stuff for now and study... and put the money away to pay your student loans.

You'll have your whole life to play with after you're done with school... and you'll have a lot more money for toys if you FINISH college.

    Get your shit straight.

I agree as well, but for a different reason altogether.

Swords and pussy do not attract one another. Got me???
The only girls into a guy w an $800+ sword he will never chop some one up with are the ones who think they are half fairy or some other nonsense. Stay away from them and useless shit that attracts them.

You want the best advise I can give you to spend money on besides paying off a loan? Need something fun that keeps on giving no matter how long you own it?
Buy a stripper pole and mount it in your family room. Don't question, just do it. It'll pay for itself with the first 3 girls through your door. Every party you have will be different and better after pole. It will give back to you. It is the best thing I have ever put in my house.

Look at it this way. A chick comes over for a party.
"Let me show you my new sword"
    "Oh yay"...

    Boring. Ok try this one.

Chick comes over for a party.
    You say "enjoy the pole"
Actions speak louder than words and clothing dropping to the floor speaks loudest of all.

Oh yeah. Owning the pole negates you from spending a bunch of $1 bills as well. More long run savings for you.

This is the only piece of rock star knowledge I can give.

    30 bucks...much more useful

My guess is likely half of us have done it, went and bought a sword when we were young because it was cool. Within a couple weeks it's either bent up, or hanging on a wall, or leaned into a corner, soon forgotten gathering dust.

Well...I am not interested in it for the sake of getting laid. LOL Besides as a general rule I never show females guns, knives, of archery equipment. So no worries there.

Huge difference between a well made sword and a machete.

Life is meant to be lived. And enjoyed. How can you learn what regret means if you don't DO stuff? Go buy the sword. Enjoy yourself. But never buy stuff on credit. It ends up owning you. If owning that sword puts a smile on your face and a spark in your step, DO IT. If you wake up every morning with regret, sell it for a loss and move on. Learn from living your own experiences.

Yeah. You'll probably find a practical use for the machete...

for that much money and you live in the US so you have almost unlimited pistol buying opportunity? I sure as fuck would not be buying a sword. Thats what Canadians and Brits buy that aren't allowed to buy guns. snap out of it man.

Cold Steel has some swords in the $200-$300 range that might hold you over. There all supposed to be useable.

I have plenty of guns...and these days very few places to shoot them. I will be stocking up on some ammo and mags soon that is for sure. I want to get into some various swordsmanship training. I have a few interested in sparring...we are planning on getting wooden wasters and protective gear. But I do want a real cutter. So what is it guys?

The Hospitaller with a oxblood grip or the more agile very sharp French Medieval?

My honest opinion (and I've stated this before) is you should get yourself a practical "battle ready" sword in the $200 - $400 range with a "hand & a half" grip.

It will have a fine carbon steel blade better than anything that was on the field in the old days, it will be far more enjoyable to play with on account of a better balance than either of the single handded blades listed and you will be able to get ALL your swordman fantasy ya yas out in fine style without scratching an $800 souvenier. I reccomend a "bastard sword". They were very popular in their time for a reason.

Also, if it's a "Blade of Legendary Quality" you seek, you can find effing Crisswel swords for considerably less than $800. Hell, $800 gets you into the lower end of FOLDED JAPANESE baldes.

IMHO, don't waste your money on inflated merchandice. I won't even bother to restate this for a fifth time the next time you wask.

The 1917 cutlass from cold steel. More updated and a fraction of the price.

Secondly the company is based in the US unlike albion

I know...I know I am sword nuts right now. Sorry. I am just geared up...working on family history and plus my history degree and my love for the Medieval days. I am really trying to find a Western Martial Arts group in my area. Plus I am going to shoot in the big Renaissance Fair archery tournament this fall, with a Stotler Game Buster (Howard Hill type) longbow with arrows I fletched! I am just a medieval nut...but not in a SCA, or LARPing kind of way.

Not to jab, but this topic reminded me of my former college-job coworker who weighed 450 pounds and was a 30-something year-old virgin (not by choice). He was obsessed with swords.

The pen is mightier than the sword, but only when you're shoving it through your enemy's throat.
