    No more Starbucks for me

Starbucks asks customers not to bring guns into outlets.

The coffee chain Starbucks has asked its customers in the US to stop bringing guns into its outlets.

Starbucks has not imposed a ban, but says guns "should not be part of the Starbucks experience".

The firm has recently become a focus for the pro- and anti-gun lobby, with supporters of the right to carry arms holding a Starbucks Appreciation Day.

But it said it wanted to give customers "a safe and comfortable respite from the concerns of daily life".
    (sarcastic purple added)

Translation: Starbucks joins the list of unarmed gun free victim zones.

Now not only can kids be gunned down in a "gun free school zone", their parents can be gunned down in a "gun free coffee zone".

    Yup. Really fuckin' smart.

I dunno...I can see where they're coming from. They, as a capitalist, want to sell coffee to as many people as possible and a large portion of their customer base is crybaby neo-hippies. All they've done so far is write a polite letter saying they'd prefer it if people didn't bring guns to the store, but if you do... hey, we'll still sell you coffee. The moment they post signs on the doors banning guns...THAT'S when I'd say buh-bye. All that said, by all means give up on Starbucks, but do it for the right reasons...their coffee is crap! Dutch Bros. is where it's at!

He isn't "banning" CCW or anything, he just does not need to have politics interfering with business.

I generally avoid Starbucks because of $5 / cup coffee...
We found out what "dealing" with progressive lefties is all about. Our side gives up something, they give up nothing and the progressives come back in a month or a year and want us to give up more... rinse and repeat...

I thought I read something recently about Starbucks stating that their policy was that if the state allows for CCW then their stores would abide by the state laws.

Here it is, back in 2010. Thought it was more recent then that.

Apparently that wasn't good enough for the anti-gun people. So Schulz turns it up with the latest statement,
hoping to further placated the anti's, without pissing off the gun owners. Tough position, trying to keep both
sides happy. Guess we all have a decision to make, whether the "unwritten" policy offends us?
There are many here that do not abide by the "no guns allowed" sign in the window of a business, and this
    isn't that, so......

Yesterdays statement is the latest. I imagine the CEO has been uninvited to all the big social events and it's cutting into his ego. It's a very wishy-washy statement really. I've stopped by on the Starbucks appreciation days just to toss my 5 bucks their way. i won't bother with that anymore.

You never miss what you've never had!

No Starbucks in the area, that I know of, but I'm not yuppie enough to pay their prices for a cup of coffee anyway.

Black, no sugar, only strong enough if it hangs onto the spoon if you try to stir it.

there are places around here that have signs that say no firearms allowed. i place my safety higher than their notice, so with a ccw i say nothing and visit anyway.

Apparently it wasn't good enough for pro-gun people either.

They had to make a big deal about it. Organizing groups to go hang out at the shops openly carrying, talking (loudly enough to overhear) about guns, talking to customers and staff about guns, posting how Starbucks was "so pro-gun" on the web, etc.

It was obviously something they basically wanted to stay out of, but pro-gun folks took that as an excuse to drag them into it.

That was my point. I don't think they deserve our business but many of you feel they should not be punished, I guess?

That's against the law. And more importantly, a violation of their rights as private property owners. And more importantly still, gives money to a business that doesn't believe you should be able to protect yourself.

Its not against the law. Store policy doesn't trump state law. They can ask you to leave and threaten you with trespassing if you come back.

Depends on the state. Here the law is written that if they have the proper signs you can be cited for carrying in a posted area, which carries a fine. If I recall correctly, if you get cited twice you can lose your permit.

    What's "against the law"?

I carry (concealed) in any store I want. If they have a sign saying "no guns", I ask them how they know if someone has a gun or not. Usually, all they say is "I dunno - it's corporate policy".

The only store I don't carry in is........... Starbucks! Because the only one I go to is on campus and I can't carry anything here (gun free victim zone).

Unless it's open carry, how would they know?

Well that was what I was told when I took my CCW course in AZ. Guess I didn't consider that other states could be different.

I suppose ready is right, that it would basically amount to trespassing.

Who cares what state it is? If it's concealed, how will they know?

The only correct answer is "When the criminal sticks the gun in my face and demands all the money in the cash register. Then the response is just as easy, why would you want to remove the people who could protect you from that person?
