Just finished another firefighting course today

Attack Team Leader this time, No more nozzleman position for me. what a day. Spent two full working days in bunker gear doing run after run. I have never sweat so much in my life. I drained 4 Drager bottles today alone.

    Worth it in the end.

Are you a firefighter or is this an extra duty for the job you have. In the Navy we get trained extensively on shipboard firefighting. I have fought lots of practice fires but never a fire of any substance on a ship. Just to be clear, I am not complaining.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Awesome! Are you allowed to take and post pics? Or is that impossible?

It is a secondary duty. I am a sonar operator by trade.

well, as a matter of fact I do. They are from a couple weeks ago when i was doing my helo refreshr

The trainer is set up outside to simulate a helo crash on deck. The metal barriers are simulating going through the hanger doors to approach the fire.

Today was indoors that is set up to simulate the inside of a ship. Engine room, Galley etc

I was a volenteer firefighter years ago, but moved around and had no set schedule so gave it up after age 35 or so.

Now I remember, at least I think so. Are you the Canadian submariner? If so I remember that we did the last RIMPAC together. We just missed being able to meet up in Hawaii.

That's cool. In the US Navy, unless there are exceptional circumstances, once a submariner, always a submariner, once a surface guy, always a surface guy. I have been lucky and served in 4 subs and 5 surface ships. Unfortunately, my sea going days are about done. I expect my next tour will be on shore duty and then the Navy will tell me it is time to go.

Hey Itorlo, where did you do your training at? I was sent to treasure island for my shipboard firefighting training. Was stationed on the USS Independence from 92-96.

Depends on the year. Submarine firefighting in Groton, CT and Bangor, WA, surface ship firefighting in Alameda, CA and San Diego, CA. I went to the one in Alameda in about 92 when assigned to the USS CALIFORNIA (CGN 36).
