    Ruger SR-762 Autoloading Rifle Debute

Published on Thursday, October 17, 2013

Southport, CT --(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is pleased to announce the new Ruger SR-762, bringing the .308 Win./7.62 NATO cartridge to the popular SR-556 family of rifles.

The SR-762 offers the downrange authority of the .308 cartridge in a two-stage, piston-driven rifle that runs cooler and cleaner than traditional gas-driven AR-style rifles.

I was wondering when that was going to happen.
"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them. ... Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."--Thomas Jefferson

The S&W M&P-10 costs almost a grand less and weighs one pound less, in addition to having an 18" barrel versus Ruger's 16".

And remember when comparing, the S&W M&P10 uses a DI system where the Ruger SR-762 uses a gas piston system.

    Hmmm.

WHY CAN'T YOU JUST PRODUCE THE .308 MINI RIFLE RUGER?????????????????????

For the $$ I'd go with the Sig .308 patrol rifle.

For the $2200 MSRP I bought a .308 VEPR and a whole lot of ammo.

Nice rifle, but to be honest way past getting tired of every new rifle that comes out being at or above th $2K mark.

Why not just an m1a scout? Wish i would of done that instead of thr dpms ap4 lr308. Although the rifle did 4 rounds into the size of a bottle cap at 300 yards. Elevation was 8 1/4 and 2 1/4 for windage on that day. Using Leupold mk3 3.5x10x40 mil dot.

Because then it is an M1A Springfield rifle a.k.a. an M14 in semi-auto config.

I think he has been suggesting a Ruger-made AFFORDABLE M1a style rifle using manufacturing methods and cost saving design changes seen on the Mini series.

    But maybe I'm wrong.

I don't know, I think the idea of a 7.62mm piston driven AR is pretty neat. If they could get the price down to $1200 to $1400 I think that would be pretty fair.

no, the model they proposed a few years back, looks just like an upscale mini-14 .

Same gas system as the mini and way more simple than an M1A.

The Ruger XGI? It was a .308 version of the Mini-14 that only made it into the catalog but never into production.

Regardless of the gas system being identical you are creating an M1A sized weapon as in it isn't Mini anymore.

I thought "Mini" was the name of their weapon system, not an objective observation of its size.

    Yep.

Now that Bill is dead, they ought to resurrect this as a modern tactical rifle. And make it take USGI mags.

BUT without the military look/weight, using a 16/18" barrel that wouldnt be equipped with a flash hider that looked like charles bronson used it to kill skinheads.

No it was named Mini-14 specifically because it was a down sized in scale M14, (look alike) rifle. Smaller caliber, smaller over all length, Mini .... 14.
