    Furniture Refinish

So I decided to attempt my first wood refinish ever (literally). I was debating on colors and so far I've only done one coat of red mahogany, which I wiped off right away.

I honestly like the way it looks and am debating on if I just want to put some coats of polyurethane on it and call it quits. However, I was wanting to possibly do the Russian red color as well.

I would really enjoy your feedback and suggestions on the next steps.

Hell, IMO, that right there would look great with a little polyurethane. But I'm also the kind of guy who's fine with pretty much any glossy wood stock.

I used the Chestnut Ridge Supply Dark Walnut Military Stock Stain with a touch of red. I also used Casey Tru oil with 0000 steel wool. Many coats and it is beautiful.

I don't think you should go darker. I think it looks good right there.

Thanks for the replies. I will apply some polyurethane and post some more pics when it's finished.

Also, would you do a semi-gloss or high gloss?

now that is going to be your decision.. myself I think gloss is good for a weatherby but not a k98 mauser.
