Does anyone here have any knowledge of Ukraines military capabilities?

I'm just curious how they are equipped as far as anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons go.

I would be surprised if they habve any military capability at all. From 1917 until the magnificent "Ronaldus Magnus" they were under the Soviet Union.

Those Ukrainian Biathletes have those speedy little .22 LR rifles. Those should really be a threat to the Russian military complex.

Russian Military Boasts 766,000 active personnel. I say boasts because that is kind of what the Russians are known for. so 10 times the military of the ukraine in active manpower.

However, it's been a long time since Russia went up against anyone who had much in the way of an organized military. Afghanistan, Georgia, and Chechen rebels are a lot different than Ukraine.

It will be interesting if Ukraine mobilizes their military in response. Seems Russia would like to bring them back into the fold.

    I saw that also wasn't that a 1992 assessment?
I thought they kept some of the nukes.

I'ts wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt but the dates on those sources are 2009 and 2012 so the data seems fairly up to date. Also said on there that they are nuke free.

Let me be the first to state I have no real problem with Ukrain dropping a nuke on Russia in self defense. Russia feels they can forcefully just TAKE land from a neighbor? I personally stand with Ukraine.
    "What sick, barbaric bastards.

It's one thing to use terrorism to make a political statement, but the wanton mutilation and suffering of innocents? How does that forward your political goals? When done in the name of religion, how does that earn you brownie points with God?

Fuck religious extremism. And especially fuck the "religion of peace." "

So, lagcsocialist supports terrorism AS LONG AS ITS FOR POLITICAL ENDS....

Realistically. where do you start? Airfields and port facilities would be my guess because you have to stop resupply?
The black sea is a bottle neck and that takes time, so the airfields are crucial. I imagine the Russian fleet is already on alert or moving so as not to caught at port.
Hell I watch to many movies.

Ukraine is kind of stuck in the mid-80's Soviet era when it comes to their military. They have similar equipment as the Russians but the Russians have more and its better updated. The Ukrainian MiG's will not have the more advanced aviation equipment, and air-to-air missiles. Their air defense systems are lacking and I doubt they have anything better than a S-300 system.

Russian APC's today can handle the Ukrainian T-84/85 tanks, serious doubt the Ukrainians have much to handle the T-90. The Russians love mobile infantry and will utilize the the BTR-90 with troops if things get bad.

Do we know what side the Ukraine Military is even on? I know a lot of the government officials are Russian goons.

"Yessir, the check is in the mail." ----- Jack Burton 1986

If Putin takes Ukraine with no consequences, look out Europe. NATO can't stand up to them without us. Obama, the dims and the libertarians are isolationist and won't allow us to get involved.

Right now, Putin could easily accomplish what Hitler lusted after. Total control of all of Europe. The only thing that could stop him would be fear of his Eastern border having no protection from China.

If Putin takes Europe its because they've become pussified since the end of the Cold War. Fuck' em. They gave up their militaries to pay for national healthcare, so they get what they deserve IMO. Why should we pay for the all of the West's military while they save their money for domestic use?

Not talking about Ukraine but rather most of western Europe.

I must disagree with Putin's Russia taking all of Europe. They can't even resolve Chechnya as an issue. Bighting off all of Europe is not practical unless he's willing to go Nuclear on it. The US leaders now are big enough Pussies that they wouldn't retaliate in kind. Personally I think the Germans would put up a pretty good fight. The Brits would pitch in fast as well.

This nation sacrificed a whole lot of people and material in the 2 wars last century. I could not in good conscience want or support another effort in Europe.
There has to be a point, at which we have to say no.
I am not a veteran, just a citizen but it seems this carnage has been going on my whole life.

Funky, the reason we must care is that if Russia gets control of the scientific and technical know-how, natural resources and manufacturing capabilities of Europe, and all of those people, we will be left with the choice of being invaded full scale in 5-10 years or......... going to all out nuclear war. That's a lose-lose situation.

Scheutz. With current capabilities, you're right. But id Putin take Ukraine, and it's people and industry, he could go on a war time footing, reinstate his draft, and be in a position to invade within a year. Sure the Germans and Brits would fight, but their people have become so lazy and pacifist, too many of them would refuse to be conscripted. I hope I'm wrong on this, but as I see oit, if we don't start flexing some miitsry muscle soon, well........I fear the worst.

OTOH, would life under Putin really be that much worse than life under Hillary??
    (Just joking, guys)
