It's not the federal governments business. That's hard for me to say on legislation I like, but it's a state issue. I want the feds out of the gun business, period. Yeah, I know. I'm dreaming.

If they required military bases to honor CCW permits I think it would be fine. Yeah, we are both dreaming.

I agree with btcave but I also agree with the rest of you. Don't want the fed involved but I don't see how you can get the same reciprocity as with a DL without them. As long as the law simply forces the recognition and acceptance of other states CCW I would be for it. If, on the other hand it seeks to set some "national CCW standard" or evolves into some "national CCW" I would be against it as there would be nothing to keep the feds from making the requirements draconian in nature and actually hurting CCW.

Actually this does fall withing the numerated powers of the Federal Government as outlined int he Constitution. It's called the full faith and credit clause:
    Article IV
    Section 1.

Full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state. And the Congress may by general laws prescribe the manner in which such acts, records, and proceedings shall be proved, and the effect thereof.
    Section 2.

The citizens of each state shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities of citizens in the several states.
The .gov may not impose it's own standards, but the .gov can (and has an obligation to) force the several states to honor the certifications of any other state.
US Constitution: Article 1 Section 8 Paragraph 4

The Congress shall have Power To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization

I don't know if this has already been acted on, or not, but I will guarantee that NONE of MD's Representatives or senators would vote for it. All we manage to elect are ultra-liberal dickwads.
