I figure that once Al Gore sees this story he will obviously tell everyone, "You can't have what I created!"

Yep. It goes against our own best interest to turn loose that which we created. Somehow, I suspect this it going to end up with every keystroke being logged, and a tax being added.

ICANN has matured, the Commerce Department had committed to handing off responsibility at some point, and the revelations from Edward Snowden of US government surveillance on the Net increased the need for the hand-off, Chehade said:
There is no question that Edward Snowden's revelations have stimulated the dialog. I attended a couple of sessions at the World Economic Forum about security risks. I saw leader after leader of major companies like GE sincerely worried about the trust factor on the Internet. And we have the Target situation. The trust in the ecosystem has been punctured a little bit.
OK, Klintoon "began the process" in 1997, but it's Snowden's fault. Mmmmmmm.... OK.

And does anyone think that if someone else assigns domain names that the US gov will suddenly stop spying?

On another note, the Internet is OURS. It's the American invented ARPANET. Where in hell does ANY other country think they have ANY right or say in it?

WE designed it. WE built it. WE grew it. And WE GRACIOUSLY allowed other countries to use it.

Taxes may not yet be added, but do you think that already every keystroke ISN'T logged?

No, it definitely won't. I am wondering if it will make it easier for other countries to use the internet for spying operations of their own?
