Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 hijacked, official says

    http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/#!/content/1.2573080/

Investigators have concluded that one or more people with significant flying experience hijacked the missing Malaysia Airlines jet, switched off communication devices and steered it off-course, a Malaysian government official involved in the investigation said Saturday.

No motive has been established and no demands have been made known, and it is not yet clear where the plane was taken, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media. The official said that hijacking was no longer a theory.

    "It is conclusive," he said.

He said evidence that led to the conclusion were signs that the plane's communications were switched off deliberately, data about the flight path and indications the plane was steered in a way to avoid detection by radar.

The Boeing 777's communication with the ground was severed just under one hour into a flight March 8 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Malaysian officials have said radar data suggest it may have turned back toward and crossed over the Malaysian peninsula after setting out on a northeastern path toward the Chinese capital.

Earlier, an American official told The Associated Press that investigators are examining the possibility of "human intervention" in the plane's disappearance, adding it may have been "an act of piracy."

While other theories are still being examined, the U.S. official said key evidence suggesting human intervention is that contact with the Boeing 777's transponder stopped about a dozen minutes before a messaging system on the jet quit. Such a gap would be unlikely in the case of an in-flight catastrophe.

The Malaysian official said only a skilled aviator could navigate the plane the way it was flown after its last confirmed location over the South China Sea, and that it appeared to have been steered to avoid radar detection. The official said it had been established with a "more than 50 per cent" degree of certainty that military radar had picked up the missing plane after it dropped off civilian radar.

Why anyone would want to do this is unclear. Malaysian authorities and others will be urgently investigating the backgrounds of the two pilots and 10 crew members, as well the 227 passengers on board.

Some experts have said that pilot suicide may be the most likely explanation for the disappearance, as was suspected in a SilkAir crash during a flight from Singapore to Jakarta in 1997 and an EgyptAir flight in 1999.

A massive international search effort began initially in the South China Sea where the plane's transponders stopped transmitting. It has since been expanded onto the other side of the Malay peninsula up into the Andaman Sea and into the Indian Ocean.

The plane had enough fuel to fly for at least five hours after its last know location, meaning a vast swath of South and Southeast Asia would be within its reach. Investigators are analyzing radar and satellite data from around the region to try and pinpoint its final location, something that will be vital to hopes of finding the plane, and answering the mystery of what happened to it.

Well....I'm not discounting the theory that it crashed on a mysterious and magical island where black smoke attacks people and some shadowy DHARMA group has a secret base with polar bears

I'd bet the passengers on that plane wish that is what happened.

The fact that there hasn't been a group that claimed responsibility for this hijacking, is what makes me nervous. If there is a terrorist group behind this, they might be holding out for a more successful attack, before taking credit.

Or the people were killed upon landing, and we now have an airborne EMP device ready somewhere. Sounds crazy.....But its what I am starting to wonder. If someone had told you a week before 9/11 was going to happen about it, you'd have thought THAT was crazy. This entire thing is just creepy to hell. Something is going on.

Muslim pilots + missing long range wide body jet plane + no debris = nuke delivery device. Personally I doubt they'd waste it to do an EMP effect, I think it will be targeted at a major city and probably in the US. I'm thinking DC or NYC, though some international targets would not surprise me. I could see Zurich Switzerland due to the banking there. Moscow to help the Chechens. I could see them trying to hit a Chinese city like Hong Kong, Shanghai or Beijing to help the Uighurs.

Long way to fly to the US without refueling, CIA had better get off it's dead ass, and evidently the NSA ain't all that now are they? Passengers DEAD! That's why whoever went up 45,000 ft, they took out any fight, knocks them out without pressure or worse, kills them outright. This has to be an inside job in collusion with someone else. They won't hit the Chinese, they unlike us would blow the living hell out of any base country this plane comes from, now comes the next target in the west, Europe would be my guess. Repainted with colors of the country they plan to hit, if this it isn't over yet that is? There will be hell to pay if chemicals (or worse) are loaded on this aircraft. I do not believe a word of what the press is reporting right now, not one.

Not off. And the have to be in their service area. Sometimes even roaming on a different network the your home network can throw that off.

I highly doubt that the plane was landed somewhere. I think that whoever hijacked it accidently crashed in the ocean, or the passengers revolted and stormed the cockpit, just like 93.

the more you look at it. I think that's what really happened and they're looking in the wrong area.

I bet the pilots took those 20 brilliant electronic warfare experts who were on that jet to new, however more forced, employment. Plus hey, free jet!

No matter what direction they flew they had to cross land and they would be in cell phone range. Either they crashed it south of the search area or they confiscated all the cell phones. Or maybe zip tied cuffed all the passengers so they could not use their phones.

I have to laugh when I hear people saying "but their cell phone is ringing" when in fact you need a cell tower within a very short distance to make the phone work, and I am sure there are plenty of cell towers scattered through the Indian Ocean.

My wonder is that some pirate thought they could fly to an improvised jungle runway, land and then do what they want, not realizing that a good pilot would only load the plane with enough fuel to get to their intended destination plus 45 minutes of extra fuel in the event they couldn't land at destination airport. The captain would also calculate the burn rate based on number of people aboard, and since flight FH370 had only half a load, there would be no need for full fuel, so it is possible they ran out before getting to an intended destination, did a successful ditching of the aircraft in the water, and opened the doors to flood and sink the aircraft fully intact.

Or they got lucky and did make it to an improvised runway, landed and had a prepared structure or tent ready to hide that big bird.

Or eventually the truth will come out.

Boy it sure would be nice to have a couple of SR-71s to do a sweep of the areas.

    No joke......

Its just off. I do not discount the possibility that it just crashed, and they haven't found it. But SO MANY other additional issues here to confuse and muddle it up. A lot of issues here. And, the world we live in isn't simple at all anymore. Not even close.

I see this as value for an emp carrier. I know there are issues.....The only real thing helping out AMERICA is that the thing would have to stop en route to refuel to get here based on the possible areas it is. THAT would blow their cover. BUT, attacking china? Or moscow? That seems more feasable. Or, attacking india. Remember, muslims in pakiland hate the indians......I don't really see this as a threat to us really. At least not yet.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 hijacked, official says

What if they put one of those so called missing suitcase nukes on it and fly it to the US?

Again, they will have to refuel it before they can come. That means putting that large airliner down somewhere, which means it would stand out and be reported/ stopped. Unless they had a country with a large enough airport willing to allow this missing plane to land mysteriously, refuel, and take off for America....I just don't see that happening. Where is it going to land? Guam? Hawaii? India? Germany? A missing plane requests permission to land and refuel....thats going to create a stir, and the plane will never leave the ground again if it has a weapon on it. Unless Germany is the target, or any of the above places. Its going to need fuel before it can come to America. Where would it get it without being stopped?

I see it more as very likely a hyjacking that went wrong. I understand and agree with the worries about various possibilities.....Just don't see some of them as possible.

If the airplane is still being searched for, and if it had "5 hours of fuel remaining" (implying a large radius of possible flight) how can they say "conclusively"?

I would say it's "conclusive" when the airplane or it's wreckage is found.

If it was hijacked, I'm sure some nutjob terrorist group would gladly claim responsibility for it........
