    Post Remington 1911R1 Carry

Does any have any experience with the Remington 1911R1 Carry model? It seems to have all the features I'm looking for from the factory. I'm looking for the following factory features:

    1. .45 ACP
    2. 1911A1 full-size steel frame
    3. Ambidextrous thumb safety
    4. White dot or night sights

If you have any suggestions of another on a similar 1911A1 I would greatly appreciate the information!

    Steve-
Para USA seems to be making a serious effort to produce some nice high quality 1911 pistols.

Sig NIghtmare Carry , uses standard 1911 mags.
You can opt for an ambi safety if wanted.

    Mine has night sites.

The Elite Pro seems to be very similar to the Remington. Thanks for the heads up.

I looked at the Sig website. The 1911 Nightmare doesn't come standard with an ambi safety. The closest Sig 1911 would be the Tactical Operations version. The only down side is that one has a rail. No something I like on a 1911 frame. Just a personal preference of mine.

could always just swap one out for an ambi.

BUt you're lookin at around $875-950 just to start.

You could go $$$ and buy a 4" RIA . Buy night sights and still come out a few hundred $ less than what you'd spend on the competition .

For $100 more you'd have your sights and safety. Screw paying for a name.

My goal is to compare apples to apples. I realize the 1911 can be easily customized. I just want to get an idea of what the manufacturers are currently offering for a specific configuration.

I was just hoping someone may have spent some time with a Remington R1 Carry. Any additional information on similar 1911A1 pistols is greatly appreciated. I will be spending a lot of time looking at the various 1911 manufacturers to see what is being offered that has the features I'm looking for as listed above.

After doing some research I came up with the following possibilities

    1. Colt XSE
    P/N - O1980XSE
    http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/Colt...82;Series.aspx
    MSRP - $1,215.50

    2. Kimber Tactical Custom HD II
    P/N - 3200197
    http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/ta...l-custom-hd-ii
    MSRP - $1,387.00

    3. Para USA Elite Pro
    P/N - 96665
    http://para-usa.com/2013/firearms/elite/pro.php
    MSRP - $1,249.00

    4. Remington 1911 R1 Carry
    P/N - 96332
    http://www.1911r1.com/Products/Firea...911-Carry.aspx
    MSRP - $1,299.00

    5. Sig Sauer 1911 Tactical Operations
    P/N - 1911R-45-TACOPS
    http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProdu...perations.aspx
    MSRP - $1,213.00

    6. Smith & Wesson SW1911TA
    P/N - 108409
    http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...layErrorView_Y
    MSRP - $1,399.00

    7. Springfield Armory Loaded
    P/N - PX9109LP
    http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=4
    MSRP - $1,035.00

    8. Taurus 1911BHW
    P/N - 1-191101BHW
    http://www.taurususa.com/product-det...crumbseries=19
    MSRP - $866.00

This is a concise list of 1911A1 pistols I came up with that have the features I'm looking for. I wanted this to be off-the-shelf pistols that require no modifications to fit my needs. I realize there are more out there but I believe this is a good representation of what I'm interested in as far as a new 1911Ai. If anyone has any experience with any of these pistols I would appreciate that information. Also, if you're aware of a similar 1911A1 that's not on the list above please reply with that information.

    Thanks, Steve

If you don't mind me chiming in on the topic; I have owned 3 1911's. My first was a Springfield Armory Milspec, it came with the gi guide rod, It never missed a beat, sold it with probably 5k through it. I then got a Kimber Eclipse II. It had a full length guide rod. It made it kind of a pain in the ass to take apart and I saw no apparent benefit of the FLGR so I replaced it with a GI. I don't notice any difference other than it is a little easier to take apart. My 3rd is a wilson combat CQB. It came with a GI guide rod. I have no intention of replacing it with a FLGR. if I bought another 1911 in the future and it came with a FLGR I'd ditch it and put a GI in.

How was it a pain to disassemble? Otherwise no discernable difference?

Twisting the bushing over the end of the FLGR can be tricky, can't just mash the spring retaining cap in with your thumb.

The biggest PITA is Kimber's bull barrel setup.

I know the bull barrels are a bit different, but I have not found any significant difference in G.I. vs full length guide rods. Just curious about others experiences.

The hollow recoil spring plug is too hard to push in with your thumb on a FLGR pistol. They make a special wrench for depressing it and turning the barrel bushing which I used for a while until I saw someone push the plug in with the bottom of a magazine then I got lazy and just started doing it that way. worked ok but I saw no need for the added complexity. I ended up ditching it and going to a GI setup. No, no discernable difference. You could take two pistols of the same make and model, put a FLGR in one and a GI recoil spring guide in the other and you couldn't tell the difference by shooting them (of course if you pulled the slide back and looked you'd see it)

I feel like the FLGR was the answer to a question nobody asked. I bought some 1911 building dvds and did alot of research a few years ago and never found a convincing reason to use one.
