Trying to plan a pilgrimage to Kentucky.

The wife and I have spent the last few days trying to see if we can take a couple weeks this summer and visit the Bluegrass state. We intend (if we can work the schedule) to spend time at one of the state parks in the Frankfort/Lexington area. Obviously I'd drag our camper there and we'd bivouac in one of their campgrounds. While looking I'm not having any trouble meeting the usual criteria her and the boys want. IE: full hookups, wifi, swimming pool and interesting stuff to do locally.

My motivation is pretty obvious, I want to do some distillery tours! Specifically I want to take the tours at Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace. If other tours were handy that would be cool too.

I just have to find a time window that works with her work and teaching schedule plus the boys' myriad of stuff. Me, my calendar is open.

You know, if I get this done, I'd throw a BBQ for anyone who wished to drive in for a day or whatever. Sure would be a hoot if some of us could go on a distillery tour together then have a shindig that evening. BBQ, bourbon, cigars..........

Google "The Bourbon Trail", that should give you a good start concerning treking into the heart of KY's whisky country.

I took tours of both the Jim Beam and Maker's Mark distilleries many years ago. Pretty cool, except as I recall they didn't hand out any free tastes.

Matt, yeah, I'm familiar with it and it sounds pretty awesome. I don't yet know how many tours I'll be able to do, I know the clan won't be very interested. But HH and BT are must see's for me. The 3 bottle order I placed earlier in the week, all 3 come from the Buffalo Trace distillery.

If I could time a trip to visit the in-laws right, I'd be in. Let me know if you dial in on dates...

Heaven Hill would be my first choice if I could only do 1 tour. Hell I think they should have a wing named after me....LOL.

Um, bro, its the exact same weather I'm enjoying here in Southern Missouri. Just stay in the shade 11:00 till 4:00 and its all good. Either that or be chest deep in 50 degree water, then you just really don't notice. Of course a bit of the brown water helps too. No, seriously, I love it here in a warm RED state.

So does our travel trailer. No, I don't like sweltering any more than anyone else, but there are ways to cope. Heat is why we love Missouri's trout parks so much. Few things are more refreshing when its 105 degrees than, as I said, being chest deep in 50 degree trout stream water.

Dang, its kind of funny in a way, watching my better half jump through hoops in an attempt to work this excursion in.

She now believes she can open up the calendar for all 4 of us, from June 25th to July 2nd. Not quite as long as I had wanted, but not bad. I know I don't want to be on the highway pulling the camper with all the crazies over the 4th.

Now I just need to select a park and look into distillery tours.

Another thing occurres to me, while in Kentucky I might be able (if lucky) to score some Van Winkle 10 year, or better yet the 12 Lot B.

I'll certainly be on the look out.

Awesome! Frankfort and Bardstown are on my agenda, plus a couple of the large booze emporiums in Lexington.
