Guys, I have never done this before, and likely never will again. I have a sophmore girl at my school, awesome young lady, who is supposed to be taking a trip with our school to China in a month. This girl has had a tough time, had some hard knocks in her young life, and is struggling to pay for the remainder of the trip. I cannot publicly talk about details, but needless to say I would like to see her go. I don't want to give you her sob story, just trust me in that this kid is deserving. Has paid for half the trip, needs 1700 bucks. I know we cannot raise that much, but I hoped maybe a few people could chip in a few bucks to help offset it. She is struggling to find it. Ill post more after work, but wanted to get this out there. If anyone can help out shoot me a pm with how much you could contribute. If no-one can or wants too, I will understand and let this die.

Well, given the nature of this, not sure I can. Me and another teacher are setting this up. I am hoping I can just raise enough to offset it for her. Already, we have raised 300 for her. I am contributing 200, so really its down to 1200 now. Just want to help her out. More details to come later.

This kid has already paid a chunk of the trip. IF she doesn't get the rest paid for, she doesn't go. And loses her money. Why is this kid worth me going on here and asking total strangers to contribute?

Its hard to know what I can divulge and what I cannot. I can tell you she lost her mother several years ago to cancer, and has struggled with that. She has focused all along on school and has maintained almost a straight A average, despite issues at home. She is a serious student, an absolute sweetheart, but given some family things she has no grandparents to ask, and is terrified of being a bother to anyone. She almost broke down when she learned I wanted to try and help her out. This girl NEEDS to see the world. This is her chance. How many of us, as adults, have had the opportunity to see China?

Despite the hard knocks of life, of which she has had several that most people do not experience until much later in life, this girl has PUSHED herself, TRIED in school, and never made excuses. She has taken the Chinese language, struggled in it, but persevered. She went through a rough patch recently with some things, had a couple grades drop, but got focused again. Brought both back up. I really wish I could tell you guys more about her, but I can't. Maybe I have said too much. I am hoping to raise $500 for her. I am likely going to sell a piece of my collection, or throw $500 of my own money at this SOMEHOW. I intend to go to the schools alumni association, but am not sure they can contribute to an individual kid.

My thinking was that anyone willing could shoot me their donation through paypal, and I could forward this to her Chinese teacher who is the one responsible for it. Time is of the essence. Guys, I know how this is coming accross, and I understand how it looks. PM ME. I am not knew to the site, and while somewhat strange at times I am at least a known member. I have never done something like this. Thats why I am hoping enough people can make a small donation to help spread it out a bit.

I will greatly appriciate anything possible.


***Edited to say I have MAYBE 2 weeks. After that, no go, as it would be too late. Really, according to the Chinese teacher, its already pushing it, but two weeks is possible.

Ok, home again.

I am going to ask that those who have publicly and privately offered to help keep all communications sent by me private. I am giving you some additional info, but for obvious reasons it must remain private.

I am teaming with another teacher to approach a school association for aditional help, and we will know hopefully by next monday if they can provide any help. After speaking with some people in regards to this association, it is possible they will help her, but also possible they won't. We believe they will, but with no guarantees, I am going to keep this up here. IF, and it is an if at this point, they come through and cover all of the money needed, then I will post that and see how we can refund you guys your money. I also would point out the teacher who is in charge of this trip also has told me that this student will probably need some money to take with her for the 10 days she will be in China, so if you are willing to alow her to keep it I KNOW she will be greatful.

I am going to provide my cell to those willing to contribute, so they may call me if they want to discuss this in more detail.

Guys, I just got home from the last day of school.

I am a bit too paranoid deep inside, and I have tried to figure out a way of showing you guys this is a real deal....Guess I look at it as it is: a 'stranger' (me) who is unknown in many ways on this site (just 'ruskiegunlover'), comes on asking for donations to a student. As far as you guys all know, I could be just another swindler....

This girl came up today after everyone was gone and hand delivered a thank you letter to me. I was considering editing her name out of it, and posting it on here, but that seems like it would go too far. So, later tonight I am going to take a pic of it (sans name to cma) and shoot it to those of you who have graciously contributed for her. I am thrilled for this young lady, and its kids like her that I went into education for.

Again, thank you to everyone who has. At this point, she could use a bit more in the way of just spending cash, as 10 days in china will require a bit more. The group provides her with breakfast and dinner, but she has to buy her own lunch everyday and anything else.
