If I had to choose between your options it would be the AR.

I have several of each, however given a choice, if I could have but one 556 calibur weapon, Schuetzenman nailed it ... I'd opt for the SiG-556 Classic. The upper is an advanced AK like design while the lower is a more refined AR like design. Also, I don't know which came first, the Daewoo or the SiG-55X series but over all the two are very similar except the SiG is more robust. The SiG upper is a piston system with 2 settings unlike an AK; the lower comes with a nice 2-stage trigger and to use one of the new buzz-words, the system is "optics ready" ... however unlike AR's that are optics ready, most 556's at least have a simple back-up irons. The SiG does require a bit of getting used to, many people complain that it is not well balanced, that its front heavy and it is; by design. Shooting the SiG, the recoil is more of a nudge straight back and you don't get the muzzle flip that is inherent of an AR or an AK so follow-up shots are quicker. Lastly you don't get the twang of the buffer in recoil like most new AR shooters complain of (after a while you block it out) ... there may be other quirks about the SiG but off hand I can't think of them.

The one in the middle is my favorite, a 556 Classic; on top is a 522 great for practice and new shooters, the bottom is the newest version that still uses the original rock-in mags, a 553 ... these all are SBR's but available as title 1 weapons with 16" barrels.

It also keeps the brass nearby and as I reload, I appreciate that aspect. Probably just a standard Heavy Buffer would do the trick and allow for a little bit faster fire rate. With the extra heavy buffer I do believe I could pull the trigger faster than the weapon can cycle.
If you are still having trouble with kick, you might try a hydraulic AR 15 recoil buffer from Brownell's, Midway or many of the on-line vendors.

Of course Colt made the best one ... its plunger is 2-3 times heavier than any of the others, but the only one they made is for a full length (A1 or A2) stock, and was for their LMG which is out of production now so they are quite expensive.

Actually the extra heavy buffer, (by Spikes) did the trick just fine. It shoots as smooth as if it was .22 LR chambered. BTW, I love your Sig rifles. Having seen them in Switzerland, I've always wanted one, just never could justify the premium price tags. When I was over there in 2003 I could of purchased a used STG90 that was neutered to Semi-auto only for $279 US dollars exchange rate. But you know why I didn't, can't get it in the US thanks to Batfeces's policy, once an MG, always an Mg.

Modified to Semi-auto only mode after they get out of the Swiss Army. OTOH they are a Socialist country and have a National Health Care system. They pay a 48% giver or take a percentage in tax on their incomes to pay for all that Socialism.
