The FAL mag works but the AK mag is definitely easier.

Now all I need to do is glue a magnet on the mag and convince my wife it will look fine on the side of the fridge.

That is awesome. Use either the blue capped Gorilla glue, or the blue capped Locktite. Now if that isn't all Americana in home decor I don't know what is! Heck you might be on to something we can sell!

With a steel AK mag, why would you even need the glue?

I just remembered, on another forum I'm on a guy has a 10 round Ak mag screwed onto his deck as a bottle opener.
