Once again we are confronted with a proclamation by a person speaking for God himself. A God no one can prove exists but a God everyone must kowtow to because this genius hillbilly is convinced his holy book is the last word on divine will. Well Mr. Believer what about the parts of the Bible that instruct you to kill people who break the Sabbath? Do you follow God's law about killing your disobedient children? Have you stoned any women who have committed adultery lately? Or are you just a cherry-picking Bible hillbilly picking out the parts of it you and your kin cotton to? The bible makes little if any real mention of gambling. There is some stuff about what we would call "easy money"

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Christian aversion to it comes from one of the testaments mentioning that the Roman soldiers cast lots to divvy up Jesus's clothing. I think it was only in one of the testaments but I forget which.

Casting Lots were used a few times in the bible before that, to parcel out land to the 12 tribes, to decide to toss Jonah overboard, the idea was always that the lot was cast by man, but the outcome determined by god, and it was more about how to make the decision more than about gambling.

Which might be able to be said about those Romans, but the Romans were known dice players and gamblers, and the event got more associated with playing games for profit than the previous uses of casting lots.

This is completely my educated guess though, could be something else entirely, but I recall finding that event interesting

It also has to do with being a "good steward" of what God has given us. Using resources God provided on a game of chance where the chances of winning are well less than 50/50 is not considered being a good steward.
