The metal "hook" part attaches to the butt stock. Place the butt of the rifle towards the floor with the carrying handle against you and the bottom of the receiver away from you. The "J" part of the hook faces you as you attach it to the swivel from the bottom. The end with the metal tab is looped through the front swivel from the muzzle-end and through the latch on the sling keeper. This is how I was taught to install the sling on an M16A2 rifle in boot camp.

I agree, you're doing it right. That's the way I used the sling in Service rifle competition. You form a loop that goes around your bicep then wrap it around your forearm when in the prone position pulling the stock down into your hand for stability.

The "no lug" look would drive me nuts. I'd have to buy a new FSB and install it.

By the way, while I have you here, do you know the proper way to put a sling on a carbine (Colt 6520 style) with the telestock that has two holes in it and no sling loop on the bottom?

It's been a while since I've had it out but it's built on a per an BOHOCA receiver which is fully fenced & the barrel is far from skinny, it may be considered a machine gun barrel because it's fat under the hand guard ... and I never got around to changing the delta ring; anyway here's my rendition;
