Question Some possibilities on the horizon

Was eyeing an auction in the near future and three different firearms caught my eye:

    S&W Talo 629-6, 3"bbl. NIB

Colt Diamondback, .38 Spec., 2.5"bbl, blue non factory stocks. 95% finish

Colt Python, blued, 6"bbl, special cased edition, circa 1981.. NIB

I think the S&W is worth around $800. The Diamondback, maybe around that price as well. The Python, don't need another 6" or a special edition but I figure it's worth $2000+ just as a NIB Python.

Doubt that I would spring for all three but two might be a possibility depending on what they sell for. I'm thinking the DB is the one I want the most as I love a nice snubby .38. The S&W would be my second choice but if I could score both for $1500 or less I might go for it. I'm sure the Python will go for more money than I want a spend for a gun that is little different then the one I have already. Now if it were to hit say $1K and stop I'd scarf it up in a NY minute.

What do you guys think on my pricing and or train of thought? TIA

I just can't get over how the Python has gone up in cost. I paid $350 for mine in 1975.

There are so many firearms that have skyrocketed in price. The Python is one, but it was such a nice revolver that I can see paying a premium for a good one, especially new in box.

Just look at the prices of what were and still should be dirt cheap and the three revolvers seem like bargains!

Nice trio and it would be very difficult to pick just two.

You want more "you godda be kidding me"? In 1975 I was offered an M16 for $250 and I turned it down because I couldn't see paying nearly 100% tax for the privilege!

Similar situation for me. My car insurance salesman was a Class III dealer. He showed me a Colt M16A1, an Smith and Wesson 76 with folding stock and one other, can't remember. Any way he was trying to make a pitch at me to buy one and I cut him off. You see I was all about Muzzle Loaders, building them and shooting them in Competition at the NMLRA national range / shoots. What I was spending on components to build a custom long rifle or Hawken would of bought me an M16, Sten, the S&W, hell even a 1919A4 and paid the tax as well. Guess which one would be worth more now! (Kicking self in ass as I type this).

With that kind of money you could buy 15-20 hi-points or 30-40 jennings.

Now that I think of it, probably was 1977 when I was 21. Prior to turning 21 my Dad would do the 4473's but I supplied the cash.

I think it is a lot of money any way you go but if it is disposable income, dispose away. If it was me I'd make the pick based on what I had less of in the collection. I think you have more S&W revolvers so my suggestion is pick the Colts.

Yeah, was thinking along those lines. The only .44Mag I have is a Ruger SBH which I never shoot so I don't really need another gun in that caliber. IIRC I've got something like 4 S&W handguns for every Colt so a few more ponies would be nice. The snubby Diamondback is the most appealing. About the only other Colts I'd like to add are a nice, 4" shooter grade Python, early Detective Special and an Officers Model Target in .38Spec. Maybe and Officers Model Match but I'm more interested in the prewar Target.

IMHO. another +1 for the Colts.
Those models are hard to come by in that condition, cause nobody gives them up .

One guy I work with still has his 6" Anaconda new in the box with his original receipt.
Local shop said if he ever wanted to sell they'd give him $1800 cash or if he put it on consignment no matter the price it wouldn't last one day around here.
