Obama on mass shootings: ‘We should be ashamed’

“The only thing that's going to change is public opinion. If public opinion does not demand change in Congress, it will not change,” he admonished. “I've initiated over 20 executive actions to try to tighten up some of the rules and the laws, but the bottom line is ... we don't have enough tools right now to really make as big of a dent as we need to.”

Obama underlined that Australia had sharply tightened its gun laws and has not had a mass shooting in recent years. "We have a different tradition. We have a Second Amendment. We have historically respected gun rights. I respect gun rights," he insisted.

But America needs “a fundamental shift in public opinion” and for voters inclined to back tougher gun restrictions to be as passionate as those who champion gun rights, the president said.

“Until that's a view that people feel passionately about and are willing to go after folks who don't vote reflecting those values — until that happens, sadly, not much is going to change,” he said.

Obama also took issue with those who argue that the problem is less guns than mental illness.

“The United States does not have a monopoly on crazy people,” he said. “And yet we kill each other in these mass shootings at rates that are exponentially higher than any place else. Well, what's the difference? The difference is ... these guys can stack up a bunch of ammunition in their houses. And that's sort of par for the course.”

As always, the regime plays on theatrical emotions and diverts to its agenda, equating guns with murder.
Criminals by definition don't obey law so how do gun laws effect criminals?
They don't save for in the positive; as all criminals prefer a disarmed victim.
This includes criminals in political office as well as those on the street.
Maybe America should be ashamed of her president.
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"

We need "a fundamental shift in public opinion". Wonder if he means from freedom loving Americans as fought for by our founders, and those who fought throughout history to maintain our freedom, or a shift to the socialism that would validate him as King Barack?

He needs to shut up and start worrying about gang violence and mental cases. Not sane Americans that built this nation around the constitution.

    This part really concerns me.

Public support for gun control has been on the decline. 2013 pretty much proved we have the advantage for the mean time, even with a democrat controlled white house and senate.

Millennials also have the least support of gun control nationwide, BTW.

Yep, this. And the fact that gun rights voters are much more passionate about their side of the issue than the gun control folks are.

No, the US doesn't have a monopoly on violent crazy people. But in other countries, they would be locked up.

Canada has as many or more guns per capita than the US. And yet there is a lower murder rate. Guns aren't the relevant variable.

EDIT - Fact check on myself after 9214's post. That information is incorrect. Canada doesn't have as many or more guns per capita compared to the US.

Well I suppose am ashamed of the American societal problems, but they are not related to our right to bear arms.

We are living contrary to how the human body/mind was supposed to develop. Facebook, twitter, & other mass media exposure does not help our young people to develop correctly. Hard work, honor, and other moral lessons are laughed at by the media and thus by our young people. Video games, porn, facebook posts, and tweets are the fertilizer being sprinkled on the youth of today. What do we expect to grow out of that mixture?

That is a shout out to all the top execs at NBC ABC CBS CNN and etc. The media controls this country and only the media can turn the public against the 2A. I wouldn't be surprised if the networks start airing anti 2A and mass shooting commercials. That is the only way he can win.
