Silentkilla, I'm sorry I came across as an asshole.

Everyone else, sorry for derailing what should have been a good thread.

I have my reasons to carry the way i do. The way I read what you posted is that I should not have a fire arm nor carry a fire arm if I did not have my gun loaded at all times. I tell ya man. In a conflict. It's one thing to have all your pieces locked and loaded. But in a carry situation if someone has there gun on you already and you reach for yours loaded or unloaded if the perp knows how to shoot you are a dead man. Or seriously wounded. If someone has a knife if they get close to me I do know how to disarm them. If there further out running at me they are screwed. But statistics prove that the average confrontation is 7 ft from each other. I understand the reason you have one in the pipe. All I'm saying is I know enough about disarmament of a weapon someone's trying to use on me. I practice at the range removing my fire arm, racking it and firing. Then reholstering my weapon. I can do this in 3.5 seconds flat. I believe that's plenty of time in a confrontation in my opinion.

In all the fighting over seas I've seen a couple good men scared In a conflict reach for there secondary weapon and shoot there self in the leg or the foot. These are trained badasses. It can happen to the best of us. I'm just taking one more precaution bro. That's all. If in in a neighborhood I don't feel safe in best believe there will be one in the chamber. I just don't carry like that all the time. Only when need be.

Amazing with all the stories that the news media does not run, about a good guy with a gun stopping a bad guy with a gun, the good guys should all be shooting themselves in the leg or foot.

To each their own, if you want to carry one in the chamber, carry that way, if you don't, then don't.

And funny, most people will go through life never having to even think about drawing their weapon, but it is better to have and not need...yadda yadda yadda.

I really find the premise of the question to be flawed. My answer is "chambered"...always. The old addage "when seconds count, the police are just minutes away" comes to mind. Seconds really can mean the difference between survival and death. Violent confrontation happens very quickly and often unexpectedly. If you are faced with a fight or flight event, you will experience involuntary autonomic responses in your body.

I carry revolvers or striker fired semi autos such as Glock or Kahr. I prefer no external safety and I prefer a holster over the trigger guard. Train a lot. You will fight like you trained. Keep it simple and stupid.

Was basing my statement on your stating that you saw trained soldiers shoot themselves with their backup weapons. Figuring if these were trained people shooting themselves, we untrained people should also be shooting ourselves almost constantly. Yes I have heard of and read reports of negligent discharge of weapons in the hands of civilians, but with the ratio of untrained civilians to trained soldiers as it is, we would be hearing of people shooting themselves almost constantly.

Dripping of sarcasm, sorry for not posting in purple.

Got ya! It's not about that nut. Imagine you have 30 to 50 armed Iraqi insurgents running at you shooting screaming allah's name. That's were I'm going with it brother. Even trained soldiers are scare and things happen like accidentally discharging your fire arm. Because you are shaking with adrenaline. That's why I prefer to carry the way I do. I've seen some awful things happen to good men. I do it just as a precautionary. But as stated if I'm in a bad part of town which there are few and In between where I live I do have one chambered. Just like I'm in St. Louis right now and best believe there's one in the pipe

Just an observation and comment here; You should not carry differently at different times. You should decide on a carry condition and train to present your pistol and put rounds on target from that carry condition. Under stress you will most certainly lose your ability to remember which condition your carry pistol is in if you switch it up. You will lose fine motor skills and fumble fuck around while your assailant(s) take your life. Just a friendly piece of advice.

Believe me when I say I've been carrying the same for years now if switched up I would have to start training myself all over again. Got a good memory.

Maybe I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying that you carried unchambered the majority of the time but when you felt you were in a "bad" area you carried with one in the pipe. This would suggest that you carry your gun in different conditions and that you think you are more prepared for trouble in certain areas.

Were you trained in the military to carry your weapon condition 3? Just curious.

I believe condition #2, with a 1911 anyway is round in chamber, hammer down and of course the safety would be off.

So what would a Glock be?

It's not really a condition 1 like a 1911 because the striker spring is not fully cocked and theoretically isn't supposed to have enough energy to set off a primer.

But then again it wouldn't really be condition 2 since it is partially cocked unlike say a true double-action or even a single-action pistol that has been "fully" decocked.

So would a Glock with one in the chamber be in condition 1.5???
