Thumbs up AR Pistol Project Part IV - The Live Fire

Well I finally got a chance to take it out and see if this thing was more than a pretty object. It is all that I hoped it would be, BAD-ASS! 100% function with 55 gr. M193 Ball and 62 gr. M855 Ball equivalents. I fired ammo through a variety of magazines I have in the collection; Magpul, Troy Battle Mag, C-Products 30 and 20 rounders, GI 20 rounder and GI (green follower) 30 rounders. All magazines fed flawlessly and locked back on the last round. Grouping was in the 1 to 2 " range at 15 yards and for a pistol I think that's quite good enough. I have rifles for longer range and better accuracy.

On the Vortex Strikefire II red dot, worked perfectly, no dot wash out what so ever. I was shooting in high noon blue sky sun, it doesn't get any brighter than this, no issues seeing the red dot. This is the Red dot 4 MOA sized dot only. By contrast an Eotech 512 on a lt. barrel middy I took along was quite a bit more pale in intensity though it was maxed out. Now I could see it well enough but really the Strikefire II was much easier to pick up visually when snapping the weapon up from a low ready to an aiming position.

I couldn't be happier with the performance.

Looks like you got yourself a handy little zombie buster.

Maybe I'll do one of these myself one day.

I highly recommend it, they are so light and easy pointing. The front of the suppressor to the front of the upper receiver I think is just a pinch over 17".

Thanks! I was concerned that it wouldn't run reliably, I am very happy that it is as reliable as any of my longer barreled AR rifles.

    Thumbs up

Follow up images from the range trip. Below are two photos of groupings from the AR Pistol. These are M855 62 gr. type loads fired at 15 yards. Remember this is a handgun, not a rifle. Also it has a 4 MOA red dot vs. a 1 or 2 MOA dot so aiming isn't as precise. Visually the red dot covers up about 90% of the black on these mini silhouette targets.

Very nice build. I'm thinking it must be pretty lightweight?

Lighter than my 16" barreled Carbine converted to Osprey gas piston, but not quite as light as I hoped. The center of gravity is very close given the shorter buffer tube and the Sig Brace thing, so because the weight is very close to the shooter it comes off quite light. My wife likes it and she's no Amazon.

    Yep me too!

Thanks to all others that posted a reply. I appreciate you all taking the time to say a little something.

These things are da shit if you have a Can to put on one. I'd hate to hear it go off with no hearing protection on. I can tell it is some kind of loud when I took the suppressor off it.

You definitely need the can. I had a guy shooting an AR pistol next to me on the range it was rattling my eyeballs.

I bet it did. I will say the Blackout 3 prong hider seems to do a good job of killing the muzzle flash. I've shot 13" FALs with an extended flash hider permanently attached. The fireball coming off of that weapon was easily seen in bright high noon daylight. I never did see any flash on this weapon, but I could hear it echoing off the surrounding area for seconds after each trigger pull with the Can off.

Yep one hand and ... ahh... a shoulder. BTW thanks. I am surprised and impressed with the Strikefire II so far. I'll keep the forum posted after I get further down the road with it in time. I might not like it so much on a rifle as I do think the 4 MOA dot adds some aiming error. For 180 bucks though, I can be happy with it on a short range weapon like this.
