The second question is more reasonable. The article states that the DOD signed a $64 million contract with Beretta to provide up to 100,000 pistols. This works out to $6,400 a weapon or about 10 times what the high end price for one of these pistols is in the store. I hope that contract includes more than just the pistols.
I haven't read the whole thread yet, so if someone else has corrected your math, please disregard. It works out to $640 per unit.

So it took them thirty years to figure out what every serviceman said when they were first talking about switching away from the 1911. The people who actually fought the battles greatly preferred the power of the 45 acp cartridge to the added rounds available in the 9 mm.

If there were no Geneva convention and our troops could use 124 +p speer gold dots or federal HST, then 9mm would be fine (and .45 even better).

Looks like I missed a 0 in my division. That sounds much better, though still high for a volume order, just not outlandishly high.

Then is it the Hague which prevents our use of expanding ammunition?

Except for one thing, grip size. Small men and most women won't be able to handle the weapon well, then there is the recoil thing. FBI was already there, done that. The fix was the .40 S&W.

I was trying to be funny

No one is replacing the 9mm anywhere or anytime. This is just a waste of money and time

Well, it looks like Beretta will still be cranking out the M9 for the Army over the next five years.

Right on. Not that I don't love my 1911's but...more holes, faster and in the right spots is what wins gun fights.

Well if this article is right, the M9 is dead and buried as far as the Army is concerned.

Didn't read the fool dot com article, but according to Beretta on their face book page the US military as still not made a decision as to the M9A3 or not.

The fool.com article is referencing a Military.com article.

Army Rejects M9A3 Proposal, Opts for New Pistol

U.S. Army weapons officials will not evaluate an improved version of the service's Cold War-era 9mm pistol, choosing instead to search for a more modern soldier sidearm.

In early December, Beretta USA, the maker of the U.S. military's M9 pistol for 30 years, submitted its modernized M9A3 as a possible alternative to the Army's Modular Handgun System program -- an effort to replace the M9 with a more powerful, state-of-the-art pistol.

But by late December, it was all over for Beretta's engineering change proposal for the M9. The Army's Configuration Control Board decided not to evaluate the M9A3, according to a source familiar with the decision.

Program Executive Office Soldier would not comment for this story until Army Public Affairs has approved a statement, PEO Soldier spokesman Doug Graham said Thursday night.

Sounds like Beretta's just trying to milk it until the official word is handed down
Where are we going and why are we in this handbasket???
