new help with a picture/photograph from the past

a few weeks ago I was here and someone posted this picture

    http://theunionstation.org/wp-content/uploads/05266.jpg

my wife is enthralled with this photo and actually has started painting it.

she would like to have the info of what year/time of year and the mountains behind.

we can't seem to find any info, I know Ogden, Utah and that is all.

she really wants to know the colour of the mountains in the background more than anything.

notice the man on the front left of the train and the PT cruisers at the left.

    thanks........

did find some history on these types of trains

isn't it possible to do a Google image match search?
Something like you post an image and it searches for more images that match it. Maybe you can find one with more info.

Don't ask me how its done, but I have heard of it.

The mountain range in question is the Wasatch range...you can probably find some good pics by googling that, as far as getting the colors right.

    Very cool pic!

I actually saw one of them at Union station in Denver back in 1995. It was on a siding getting something worked on. We were on our way to see a ballgame at Coors field but I couldn't help but take a few minutes to look her over, the kids got a kick out of it too.

They are an awesome sight to see.

If you find yourself in Denver, go to the Forney Museum. They have a Big Boy there.

I've often wondered if the one I saw was the one from the Forney museum or one on it's way to another museum somewhere or for some sort of excursion. They were stored at the UP's steam shops in Cheyenne IIRC so if it was on it's way to somewhere chances are they'd go through Denver. It was actually under it's own power or at least had a head of steam going and wasn't just being pulled by a diesel. They were working on the left front driver rods and were moving it forward and backwards a few feet.

Unfortunately at the time it never occurred to me to get the number.
