Here is a link that describes what the issues were with the R51.

Yet another reason I don't run right out and buy brand new pistols when they hit the market.

Man what a dud this one turned out to be.

Makes you wonder how an established and experienced gun maker could screw the pooch that badly.

Same reason damn near every other remington product anymore is crap, because the people running the place went to school to learn how to make money, not guns.

Yes.....and unfortunately for us that applies to a whole lot of the companies we used to trust not just guns.

Glad that they are redoing the pistol, hopefully correctly this time. Got a chance to take a good look and fondle them at the NRA show when it was here a few months ago. Felt really good in my hand, and was hoping to find it a nice pistol, but unfortunately many people ran into quality issues. At least Remington is admitting the problem, and providing a reasonable fix.

I agree, but would still be cautious. just didn't like the review in GR1s post 5. eating your hand, trigger pull, disassembly, malfunctions. naw

In Glock 19 we trust. No others need apply in the 9 mm concealed carry genre.

Yeah I'd have a hard time trusting my life to a gun with issues so bad that they're having to replace them and giving people refunds.

    http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/show....php?t=1532369

How long before the new replacement starts having issues???

Great customer service is all well and dandy but I prefer a gun that works great right out of the box and I never need to find out if their CS is any good or not.

And this isn't just a few lemons slipping through, this is serious and widespread problems, so much so that they stopped production and they're replacing entire guns and refunding people's money.

I'll pass even though they have great CS.

That's what I always ask myself. What will it do that my glock won't?

On the other hand. Im glad someone realized that the fucking ramp on the rear sight should face the rear.

I have no doubts that the Kahr handguns are quality. Owing three 19's I just don't need to invest in "another brand". Had I gone Kahr 20 years ago, I'd be all about them now. I went Glock, haven't regretted it ever. In 2005 the decision was made to move away from diversity and try to focus on limited calibers, makes and models of firearm in the inventory.

A few weeks ago I asked Remington via their website if they were marking the R51 pistols they're providing in their exchange program so you would know it's an updated version. I also mentioned the fact that the owner's manual for the R51 doesn't appear anywhere on their website. This is the reply I got yesterday via email.

    Mr. Mace,

Thank you for contacting Remington. At the present there has been no information released that says there will be any different markings. Gun produced before October are all eligible now to be sent in for replacement.
The Owners Manuals should be available soon on our website. I have included one as an attachment.

So, those R51 current owner's must pay attention to their serial number to know that they are at least getting a different pistol. Those who chose to purchase one now will be forced to contact Remington directly to know if they have an updated version or not. Remington also provided a copy of the R51 manual in their reply. It specifies to only use Remington or Banes ammunition.
    After today, it's all historical.

That should be Barnes. My mistake. An this is straight from page 14 of the owner's manual.

The Model R51 handguns were designed for use with Remington and
Barnes ammunition. To find more information on the different ammunition
types available, see a Remington Arms or Barnes catalog. The
www.remington.com and www.barnesbullets.com are also valuable websites
for learning about available ammunition types.

The use of ammunition not branded Remington or Barnes may produce
malfunctions. Remington Arms Company, LLC. Is not responsible for
malfunctions encountered while using ammunition other than Remington
    and Barnes branded ammunition.
