    WTF Gunsnet

Maybe i'm out of line here but i've been a member for a very long time here (Circa approx 2001) what happened to gunsnet? Used to be a thriving a community that I found a lot of pride in moreso then over at the arfcom yuppies but now it seems that we are out numbered here 10 to 1, did the server crash really put a hurt on this community to that point or am I missing something? Some of the most real down to earth guys i've seen came from GN. Seems sad to see something like that pass.

No, you hit the nail on the head, I too have been around since 2001 and see the forum in it's current state of affairs as being on life support. We have a couple of resident trolls who seem to derail just about ever discussion that is non-gun related on here.

Most of our time is spent arguing with commies these days. I've been around since '01 too when I bought my first AK.

Most of the guys that post have about the same amount of time in or more and we don't have many questions left to generate posts in the gun forums.

although if you want a thread that will stay troll free post about firearms or a recent shooting trip. Since they dont own guns and have nothing to add they will stay out.

The crash hurt, the fucking cut barrel parts kits hurt, the GD was always a commie soap box. lol.
I only post in the gun forums, the road house, and very little up here in the attic. It's nothing like it used to be, but a few "down to earth" folks are left.

Nail on the head! Funny, I made similar remarks in a current thread and got ripped for it.

How the hobby has changed since ATF started following the sporting purpose clause of the new ATF second amendment per the executive order of George Bush the First.

Add that to the skyrocketing prices and not many people can afford to fire off a couple of thousand rounds in one outing as my daughter and I did a dozen years ago.

I don't recall your name you're using now, what was it on the original Gunsnet. Yes the original server company screwed Gunsnet to the max. Then we had at least one mod run amok and we had to ban him. Remember Swampdragon? Seems we make a post and 70 will view it, you're lucky if 5 people make any reply post.

By all means stick around and post ... a lot. I'm the same Schutezenman that has always been around on Gunsnet since 1999.

true, dried up supply of kits, dried up C&R imports, a commie president. Expensive ammo, ammo shortages, these have definitely put a damper on things.

I still try and post range reports, even if they mine aren't all that interesting just to provide some gun related content. Hell I'll even post boring, hey I just re-loaded a couple hundred rounds of xxxx, what kinda powder/bullets do the rest of you guys like to use threads.

If it makes any difference, on Friday Aug, 1 I will be in possession of a ridiculously priced rifle and will have an initial report on how it is out of the box. Hopefully a range report will soon follow.

We need to get the Guns back in Gunsnet!

Several other things we SHOULD do......
    "What sick, barbaric bastards.

It's one thing to use terrorism to make a political statement, but the wanton mutilation and suffering of innocents? How does that forward your political goals? When done in the name of religion, how does that earn you brownie points with God?

Fuck religious extremism. And especially fuck the "religion of peace." "

So, lagcsocialist supports terrorism AS LONG AS ITS FOR POLITICAL ENDS....

Yeah, he retired from the Military, moved to the country, (forgot which state). Bought a small farm, had some horses and then ... evidently lost his freaking mind. Possibly alcohol abuse from losing the structure of the military life. He ran off quite a few of the old regulars before his plug got yanked. Dameon and Ubersoldat to name two that I believe left never to return due to his antics.

13 years ago you had $300 AKs and a 1K case of ammo went for $75.....lot more interest in AKs back then.

The AR has since become the default EBR for most Americans and has replaced the AK as the icon of most 2A minded people.

Times change and yeah the long down times didn't help matters.

I was here years ago, but dropped off for what must have been a longer time than I realized. When I found my way back, I had much the same reaction.

In addition to the build forum, I miss the old Russian forum with Volk, Vorkutinetz, and the others, even the alcoholic DesantnicDVD whose background turned out to be entirely made up. It would be nice to have some opinions, other than what we get from the media, about what's going on over there.

Interesting you bring that up. Back around that time (y2k or so) I decided that I should keep to my US arms, specifically the AR and my M1 Garand. I left the AK in the safe for quite a while, but when I finally got it back out, it was like meeting up with an old friend that I hadn't seen in a long time. It just felt right in my hands.

After that I had my AK and Sig P220 as my "go to" guns until 2008 when I took a couple of courses that required an AR type carbine and a high cap pistol. After taking those courses my go to guns are my M4gery and CZ 75.

Maybe someday I'll drift back to the AK. Who knows?

I've been around since 2003, was Duke357mag on the old forum.

Although not having the traffic sucks, in a way its nice knowing all of the people that respond to your posts. On other busier forums, it kind of feels like whats the point in posting when in ten minutes they'll be on the next page and no one will have read your message anyway.

As far as changes in the firearms market go, theres been a lot of positive change as well as negative change. No we can't afford to waste cases of ammo a day at the range, but that shit was abnormal anyway. It was a perfect storm of economic and international political conditions that allowed for that cheap ammo, and the whole time we had it all we did was complain that our SAR rifles didn't come with bayonet lugs and folding stocks. Well, now theres a shit ton more AKs to choose from, ARs are cheap as dirt, there is STILL no federal AWB, and there are countless advances in materials and designs every year. Also, the repeated attempts to ban guns has resulted in the exploding popularity of firearms ownership and concealed carry.

AKs still seem pretty popular to me. I think its just that people are discussing them elsewhere.
