Judge: Justice Dept must provide list of documents

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge has ordered the Justice Department to provide Congress with a list of documents that are at the center of a long-running battle over a failed law enforcement program called Operation Fast and Furious.

In a court proceeding Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson set an Oct. 1 deadline for producing the list to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The Justice Department says the documents should remain confidential and President Barack Obama has invoked executive privilege in an effort to protect them from public disclosure.

The House panel says the Justice Department documents might explain why the department took nearly a year to admit that federal agents had engaged in a controversial law enforcement tactic known as gun-walking.

It won't make any difference now. The Justice Dept. has had plenty of time to sift through all the documents and "correct" all the damaging info. I can guarantee that IF they are released, they won't be the originals. They will show no wrongdoing on any of the government's handling of the whole illegal affair. Hell, they'll even make everything look 100% legal.

They still have them. Just because they said they "crashed" doesn't mean they crashed. Hard drive, or not, IF they "find" them, they will have had enough time to have been "corrected." Then, they can use them to show no laws were broken and everything was on the up and up. After all, Obamanation promised an "open and transparent" government. Why should there be evidence showing anything to the contrary?
