Special operations contractors to deploy 'high threat team' to Ferguson

On Tuesday, the Missouri-based private security contractor Asymmetric Solutions, a company that hires former U.S. military special operators, said on Twitter that it intends to deploy what it called a "high threat team" to Ferguson.

"We've been to Baghdad, Kabul, KL, Manilla, Peshwar, Bogata," the company said. "Never guessed we would deploy a high threat team in our own city."

According to 1776 Channel's Alan Jones, the company said it could not specify the nature of its work in Ferguson. According to Jones, a spokesperson said “we cannot professionally hand out that information, regardless of client or location. We put a security team of former SOF personnel into the STL area at the request of a client.”

This partnership between public and private should be expected at similar future events.
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"

Sort of like a well regulated militia...

"Intend to deploy?" What are they doing it for free? Seems like they would say they've been contracted by the City of Ferguson, county of St. Louis, the federal government, etc. Somebody must be paying for it so they should know if they are being hired to go there or not. That's like me saying I intend to take a position at the Pentagon. OK, that's my intention. Doesn't mean I've even been offered a job.

I know more than a few people who would do it for free, as long as what they did was free from prosecution.

    Yesterday's news.

To clarify we are not protecting state, law enforcement or those exercising their right to assemble. Escort detail augment for individual.

We are saddened that such service is needed in what is normally a peaceful, harmonious metropolitan area full of good people.

According to a follow-up tweet that came about 12 hours later, the contractors had finished their job by 4:30PM on Wednesday and expressed their thoughts on media news coverage of the events taking place in Ferguson.

Safe tour – job complete -on direct observation seems media has made protestors out to be more bloodthirsty than they are

The quote specified state, law enforcement. This could be interpreted to allow the possibility of a Federal client. Clearly ambiguous, it does not rule out a government client. Highly unusual, that's one expensive 'safer ride'.

So here's the rumor, and let me stress, it's a rumor...it may have some basis in fact, might not.

Supposedly a local business owner of expensive type merchandise (I heard Jeweler or Pawnbroker), who has NOT been looted (or only partially looted, a secret or study safe that was unopened) , got contacted, or himself contacted about his insurance. He'd been keeping the shop closed, but the merchandise was still there.

The insurance company wanted him to move the merchandise to a safer location, or were going to drop him or some other unwanted thing.

So he hired, or the insurance company hired, these guys, in order to do security while the stuff was moved, properly cataloged, better stored.

Might be some truth to it, might not, again just a rumor. But the basic idea kinda makes sense.
