Aid group: US doctor who had Ebola has recovered

ATLANTA (AP) — At least one of the two American aid workers who were infected with the deadly Ebola virus in Africa has recovered and was to be discharged Thursday from an Atlanta hospital, a spokeswoman for the aid group he was working for said.

Alison Geist, a spokeswoman for Samaritan's Purse, told The Associated Press she did not know the exact time Dr. Kent Brantly would be released but confirmed it would happen Thursday.

Emory University Hospital planned to hold a news conference Thursday morning to discuss both patients' discharge. Brantly will speak but won't take questions, according to a news release. Emory spokeswoman Holly Korschun did not give further details on either patient, citing privacy concerns

I got a question about this. Now don't get me wrong I love it when someone beats a virus, but think about chicken pox for a minute.
Chicken pox is usualy something we get as kids, overcome it with some discomfort, and then decades later it can emerge as shingles. It seemingly burrows into the spinal nerves and hides there, waiting for a trigger later in life. So since we carry chicken pox virii with us forever, don't ebola survivors carry it for life? Won't they be potentially contageous for life?
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"

You make an excellent point. Just because he has recovered from the symptoms doesn't mean the virus is gone.

WELL..... Isn't that nice. I believe it's the governments "plan" anyway. To cut the population in half without anyone suspecting they had anything to do with it.

I'm ignorant on the topic but I would think it depends on the virus. If you get the flu you are only contagious for a short while and after you are recovered it is a non-issue. With something like AIDS you have that shit for life.

Think about it. If this were actually an issue we'd have cases of small pox and polio cropping up here in the west all the time.

Think about someone with herpes, it's not always erupting but when it does the person is contageous and herpes seems to be a life sentence. And as to the virus becoming absent from the body but not the antibodies, why would ebola disappear when chicken pox, herpes, etc other virii stay with a person? Just because el jefe says so? I can easily see how that can work. Just kidding. I'd say the survivors are more at risk of infecting those closest to them than anyone others if this is possible. The first ebola outbreak had survivors, and I've not heard of them infecting others, conversely their serum has been used to treat other ebola victims. I sure am glad we have internationally respected nobel laureate virus expert el jefe amongst us to school us lesser idiots.

"Shingles is less contagious than chicken pox and cannot be passed from person to person. However, the varicella zoster virus can be spread from a person with shingles to someone who has never had chicken pox. The unfortunate recipient might develop chicken pox, but not shingles."

This exhaust you speak of, is it filtered or treated before vented outside to atmosphere?

The exhaust feeds those fans they leave at the doors that blow on you to keep the flies out.

Um, you were convinced weeks ago that ebola cases were walking across the southern border. Any proof that any of that happened?

    Blind fear is just that.....

You should be far more concerned with West Nile or something you might actually catch.

Just because I bring something up doesn't mean I fear it.
You can fear it if you wish, I wish to discuss it.

"While appearing on my talk show, Dr. Jane Orient, an internal medicine specialist and the Executive Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS), clearly stated that Border Patrol informants told her that an unknown number West Africans are in Central America, and have come across our Southern border. Dr. Orient understands that Ebola screening practices had not been implemented at the border with immigrants that were being detained. Please note that the incubation period for Ebola is up to 21 days."

And bp has nabbed people from west africa in the last few months coming over the 0bamaborder.
