Was trying to get the 1st Armored Div to maybe donate 10-20 MOLLE II rucks for my kids to use in Utah next year, but they declined to help out. I got the vibe I was just bugging them. Oh well, going to hit up the Marine Corp now, but I don't really have any faith. Figure I will just have to ask the kids to gear up themselves, and I can offset that with my fund raising. Don't know if I mentioned this, but a few weeks ago I spent a weekend at a local gun show (with my bosses permission) and raffled a Marine ILBE pack for $310 bucks. I am thinking I can encourage the kids to get ILBE's off of ebay for $50-60, which is substantially cheaper than civilian packs. I don't really get why the army or marine corp cannot donate 20 rucks, when all they are doing is auctioning them off and throwing them out.
Have 25-30 kids starting out. Believe it will wither down to about 10-15 by the end of the year. Hoping to take my kids to Death Hollow Utah, probably over memorial weekend after school gets out. Got permission to take them to the family owned cattle ranch for a weekend in October or November, along with taking them camping at a local state park. Going to fish, hike, MAYBE target shoot (still figuring that one out). Have a ton of parent volunteers, staff volunteers. Have a couple teenage girls wanting to do the 24 mile Death Hollow hike, and luckily for me I have some female staff willing to do it and help out.
As a teacher I LOVE introducing kids to new things. History, movies, reading, anything. Taking a bunch of kids who have never been west of dodge city ks to Utah, across the Rockies, and into some magnificent natural scenery is just going to be awesome. I believe it is going to come off. Extremely excited. One student is a senior I had 4 years ago as a freshman, who has wanted to do this for two years now. Couple other senior boys are pumped, along with a collection of other kids.
Pumped.
