Retired Navy Warrant Officer John A. Walker Jr. died

A former American sailor convicted during the Cold War of leading a family spy ring for the Soviet Union has died in a prison hospital in North Carolina.

Retired Navy Warrant Officer John A. Walker Jr. died Thursday at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman Chris Burke said.

The cause of death was not immediately released. He was 77.

Walker was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty in 1985 to passing secrets to the Soviets while he was a shipboard communications officer.

The security breach was then considered among the largest and most devastating leaks of military secrets in the nation's history.

A cryptologist, Walker used his high-level security clearance to provide Navy codes, ship locations, and other sensitive data in exchange for cash.

After his 1976 retirement, Walker recruited his son, his brother and a friend to keep providing the Soviets fresh information. All were convicted.

I was looking for a rumored Boston mosque fire alarm story, the alarm sounded and police and fire responded before the iman got there and they allegedly found a mess of guns in the basement.... but Herr Holder said not to touch them as the mosque had 2nd amendment rights just like Americans do, but have failed to turn anything up. Allegedly. But I did notice this story on Walker in the search so that is newsworthy I guess. Anyone in the Boston area heard anything about a mosque armory??
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"

As an American and a Navy Limited Duty Officer I am not sure why we did not execute this guy for treason. He did immeasurable damage to our country and he brought disrepute on all Limited Duty and Chief Warrant Officers. He lived almost 30 years longer than he should have.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.
