Didn't know that Colt makes bolt-action rifles.

Saw an ad on a gun-related website that led me to Colt's product page showing some bolt-actions. .308 with 5- and 10-round removable magazines, Timney triggers, Cooper brakes, and match barrels. Interesting...

I saw an ad for those about a month ago, i think they are a fairly new product for Colt. Nice rifles, but like all Colts, a bit on the pricey side. I noticed they offered one in .260 remington, that caliber has been turning up a lot at the range i go to lately. The guy shooting next to me last week had just put a 260 upper on his AR and was shooting quarter sized 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

The .260 is a 6.5 mm bullet in a .308 case. Having owned the 6.5x55 Swedish Mausers I can speak to the accuracy of 6.5 bullets. I've often thought of setting up 6.5 mm AR upper, the 6.5 Grendel in particular. If I had an AR10 sized AR I'd seriously look at the .260 or the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Colt doesn't exactly make bolt action rifles. They just sell them. Cooper Custom actually makes the rifles. I don't view this as a bad thing necessarily since cooper seems to turn out really nice work but it's worthy of making the distinction: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/...cooper-action/

I'm a proponent of .260 and other 6.5mm cartridges as well. .260's stock went up quite a bit too when lapua started making brass for it (now if only Winchester would get in the game). 6.5mm offers a great balance between ballistic coefficient and velocity without being too terribly harsh on the barrel. I wouldn't say it's more accurate than a .308 though, just easier to be accurate with (lower recoil, flatter shooting, less drift).
