I wonder what gives?
I wonder what gives?
maybe they are smart.
While no one ever listens to me,
I am constantly being told to be quiet.
In a world of snowflakes,
be the heat..
Chains weigh lightly on those who have been long chained...
If we refuse to rule ourselves with reason, then we shall be ruled by our passions.
He, Who Will Not Reason, Is a Bigot; He, Who Cannot, Is a Fool; and He, Who Dares Not, Is a Slave. -Sir William Drummond
There are some things I will not abide within my sight!
Sounds like they got quite a few concessions out of the deal to remain part of the union though, more representation in Parliament and more control over their own internal affairs.
Supposedly their biggest beef was with the Crown's willingness to warmonger in the Middle East -- apparently Scotland is quite a bit more liberal than the rest of Great Britain and didn't like how the Queen kept playing lapdog and second-fiddle to U.S. foreign policy.
I was kind of hoping they'd secede.
"That tyranny has all the vices both of democracy and oligarchy is evident. As of oligarchy so of tyranny, the end is wealth; (for by wealth only can the tyrant maintain either his guard or his luxury). Both mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of their arms." -- Aristotle, Book V, 350 B.C.E
They had more to lose than to gain. Mostly, the pound.
It's not like the Brits were sending raiding parties into the highlands anymore, or enforcing the crown's rents via redcoats.
There are not even 5 million Scotts in Scotland. They would of been a big looser in many ways to separate from the UK. With such a small population they couldn't sustain all the free Socialist stuff they enjoy like the healthcare system. On the Pound, they use Scottish Pounds, not British Pounds. They already have their own Parliament in Edinburgh. They are in love with the "Brave Heart" fantasy. Like has been mentioned they aren't being raped by the armies of England anymore and haven't been for a long time.
Well, the "Scottish pound" is sort of like "Disney Dollars", they are 1 to 1 with the UK pound, because they are 100% backed by the UK pound. But they are issued by a few retail banks, not the government. They barely even have the ties of the FRB and the US government, these are actual retail banks. No one has to accept Scottish pounds, not even the government.
On a side note, and not directed to you, Israel was creating a viable country long before the US started giving them either grants or loans.
What Scotland does have is natural resources. And since the area is very stable, they would have no shortage of investors.
isreal has brain power. that can carry a people a very, very long way. but I don't think the scots are truly
hated by everyone.

I think its for the best. In 5 or 10 years they would be rioting in the streets because gubmit would run out of free shit pretty quick.
Does England's Gun Ban apply to them and Ireland?
Ok, I guess they like being Sheep!
Its seems the older generations wanted to part of the UK still.
I was kinda hoping Scotland would become independent. Scotland wanted independence because they were tired of getting so called "conservative," governments in London. If Scotland were to become independent, then maybe the U.K. might have become a little more conservative.
