Fighting pneumonia for the first time in my life after vaccine on Tuesday.....

So I came down with what I believe was a mild cold last Saturday morning. Normal stuff, light headache, runny nose. By Tuesday I was feeling better, woke up with no issues with my nose for the first time in days, and at my high school they were offering free vaccines. I thought, hey, getting over the cold, wife is pregnant, so I need to get them. All my life I have had flu vaccines, never got sick. I decided to get all three: tetanus booster, flu, and PNEUMONIA. Never had the pneumonia vaccine before, or pneumonia.

That was 7am when I had all three given in my right arm. By 10 am, I was starting to run a fever. Took some ibuprofen, fever went away. By my 7th hour, after lunch, whole body and joints felt sore. 3:30, left school intending to go home, and trying to call my doctors office to see if they thought I was reacting to the vaccines. They don't answer, and about halfway home I was beset by the worst chills and shivering I have ever had in my life. Had my AC on, felt normal temp wise, and the next second I felt like I was almost seizing. Almosty pulled over. Killed the ac, turned heat on full bore, and SMOKED myself out of my truck.

Drove straight to my docs office, as I also started feeling sick to my stomach, and getting dizzy. Docs office turns me away, tells me they are over booked. I offered to wait a couple hours just to TALK to my family doc, they said no, recommended I go to an immediate care place. Shivered as I walked to my truck again.

Went first to a place that apparently has shut down. That pissed me off. Drove to another location that had recently changed to a pediatric location, that really pissed me off. Finally made it to an immediate care facility. They gave me an xray, took blood, swabbed my nose, and told me I was in the early stages of pneumonia. Gave me 800 mgs of ibuprofen to knock out my high fever (102), sent me home with an antibiotic, and said to stay home from work for a few days.

I have never in my life had so fast a slide into sickness before. Walking out of my job Tuesday, I could feel myself getting worse. But in a 25 minute time span to have MASSIVE chills, shivering, an upset stomach, and dizziness set in really freaked me out. I am much better today, but now running a 97 temp all the time. Spent the last two nights sweating even though I was cold, soaked my sheets. Sent my pregnant wife to her parents house, so she was never around me when I ran a fever and hopefully was not exposed to anything. I am wondering if I developed this from the vaccines or not. Just seems WAY to coincidental. And no doctor on earth seems to want to admit that vaccines can make you sick, because they think it would scare us all away from them.

By the way. Being sick as a teacher sucks. Most of the working world can go home sick, and leave work AT work. Not us teachers. Have to worry about lesson plans, how your kids are going to act, if you'll get a good sub or not. Just sucks. Ready to go back, but not sure I will Friday or not.

Valid point. I want to stay home one more day to be sure, but again, planning for my 2nd will be difficult. Need to give a lecture and presentation over Stalin, the icebreaker thesis, and and start of the European theater of WWII. DO NOT want a sub doing that.

And yes, controversial as it might be, I present the icebreaker thesis to my kids. I explain that it is just theory, but is no stronger or weaker than most any other theory. And personally, I subscribe to it.

The drs and nurses will tell you this event is unrelated to the vaccination.
    Sure.
Like all the parents who got polio from their just vaccinated kids were going to get it regardless.

Bummer, make sure you take the full course of antibiotics, you may feel better in a few days, but it actually takes a few weeks for your lungs to clear the bacteria out. If you stop taking them, then it's likely to return, be worse, and more resistant to those antibiotics.

If it is pneumonia, tonight is gonna suck. Plan on propping yourself up with pillows or sleeping in a recliner if you want to breathe.

Do your best to live very healthily for the next few weeks. Stupid shit like eating a bunch of junk food and trying to work too hard too early could put you back in the hospital, or worse, under the dirt.

I've had pneumonia several times, I get a severe sinus infection and/or flu once a year, I own my own nebulizer, and I personally know someone who slipped into a coma and died because he didn't take care of his pneumonia even after he had gotten the antibiotics.

Be careful with this shit. Eat healthy, keep your stress to a minimum, and get lots of sleep.

    Take the extra day. Seriously.

With this kind of illness, err on the side of protecting your health.

I do what few others do, and that is focus on the crimes of Stalin in the 30's and how he wanted to spread communism by FORCE. I teach them that he openly advocated that in the 20's and 30's, and was secretly and MASSIVELY building up the Russian military. Teach them about the great purge, and how many believe he may have intended to attack Europe while it was weakened. I feel that the generally accepted 'History' ignores a lot of things. Like why was Russia rearming so rapidly? Why did Stalin purge his military of untrustworthy communists?

Regardless, obviously, I cannot have a sub do my notes on this with my kids. Do all the kids get into it? No. But, maybe 40-50% really get into it, as they have had previous exposure to Hitler and the Holocaust. Another 10-20% will pay attention just to pass the class. The last are the kids always suspended for fights, drugs, or just cannot care any less about school.

I had pneumonia last year, it is nothing to be trifled with. I know you do not want to miss out on your class but if you are not careful you will miss out on more than just a couple of days. When I had it, it took me a month to get back to normal.

Ruskie - for what it's worth - about 30 years ago (before I knew her), my g/f had bacterial pneumonia and, after it had cleared up, they gave her a vaccine shot, hoping to keep it from recurring.
Instead, a couple of months later, she developed asthma and has had to deal with that ever since!

So, Tuesday, when I left work, my wife was still at work. My wife had not been exposed yet. I simply called her and told her to go home after work, while I was at the doctors office, and get clothes for a few days so she could stay with her parents. She is 4 months pregnant. Tonight, because I felt fine most the day and did not run a fever, she came home. Now, the damned thing returns.
