Basically you have a pattern printed onto a film, the film is placed on to a liquid and dissolves, leaving the pattern on the surface of the liquid, then whatever you dunk into it gets the pattern printed into it.

Duracoat would be better, hydro dipping is more for if you want a bunch of skulls or camo etc

Yep, this. All that Real Tree camo covered anythings are done this way. Everything from Compound bows to Rifle stocks and scopes.
