City of Houston demands pastors turn over sermons

The city of Houston has issued subpoenas demanding a group of pastors turn over any sermons dealing with homosexuality, gender identity or Annise Parker, the city’s first openly lesbian mayor. And those ministers who fail to comply could be held in contempt of court.

“The city’s subpoena of sermons and other pastoral communications is both needless and unprecedented,” Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Christina Holcomb said in a statement. “The city council and its attorneys are engaging in an inquisition designed to stifle any critique of its actions.”

ADF, a nationally-known law firm specializing in religious liberty cases, is representing five Houston pastors. They filed a motion in Harris County court to stop the subpoenas arguing they are “overbroad, unduly burdensome, harassing, and vexatious.”

"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"

Expect much more of this as time goes on...

And of course one wonders if such demands will ever be made to the imams of any mosque...somehow I think not...

If only we had a document that protected freedom of religion and freedom of speech. If only our founders had thought ahead to the need for such a reminder of governmental over reach. If only.

Wouldn't that have been exemplary of them?

This has got to be unenforceable as completely unconstitutional right?

Uh, where's the ACLU? Oh, right. I forgot. They're fighting against the Constitution. My bad.

The arrest of pastors, the banning of sermons and other religious speech, and the confiscation of bibles should all be treated as seriously as a nationwide gun confiscation.

This is a gross misuse of "authority". I hope they stand up and don't give in to what they are trying to do. I can't wait for the day that politicians and lawyers are arrested or exiled from government work when they are caught abusing their positions or breaking the law via their position.

I hate to say it but things like this will probably get worse. I have thought for a while that they will try to put someone not agreeing with the gay life style on the same level as a racist.

You know, if she really wanted some sermons I'm pretty sure all those pastors would be happy to let her attend their church.

This is pretty serious stuff (I thought surely it had to be a hoax).
If the church is silenced, this nation is officially dead.
No more 1st amendment, no more freedom of speech, religion or thought.

This mayor and council need to be impeached/recalled now, it appears they have violated the state and federal constitution.

Take a look at Britain, and to a lesser extent Canada.

That is what they want here. They want you to be arrested if you question any of their social agendas. It is illegal in the U.K. and Canada (I believe) to recite scripture that speaks against homosexuality, such as in Leviticus, under the new standard of illegal "hate speech".

Remember when the little Brits from worldwide politics or whatever showed up? They specifically said that we should be arrested for our "hate speech" in America, the same way that we would in the U.K. That would mean no more gunsnet, and no way of espousing our view points.

WOW, I have been predicting this for several years now. They will move on this, and next start taxing churches that speak on it to bully them into silence. Churches that will not be silent will have heavy taxes waged on them for 'joining the political debate'. The left will say that the second the church speaks on politics, they are no longer non profit and tax exempt. Which again, is not constitutional. But, they will do it anyway. We should fight over this if it does in fact continue. It will get worse. Question is, when do we stand up against it? When do we defend our rights? Its Houston today, Texas tomorrow, the nation in 4 weeks.
    "What sick, barbaric bastards.

It's one thing to use terrorism to make a political statement, but the wanton mutilation and suffering of innocents? How does that forward your political goals? When done in the name of religion, how does that earn you brownie points with God?

Fuck religious extremism. And especially fuck the "religion of peace." "

So, lagcsocialist supports terrorism AS LONG AS ITS FOR POLITICAL ENDS....

Yeah right would that ever happen. Western Europe and Canada need fresh muslim imports to occupy the bottom rung of their socialist pyramid scheme. But since the progressive movement is global and the narrative must be maintained, muslims will continue to receive special privilege even here in the U.S.
