People in Turkey mainly speak Turkish. Step #1 would be, do you speak it? I can't see how you could get to what is no doubt a closely controlled border area without that OR having a Turkish guide who knows his shit. Seriously, you can't just get in a taxi and say "take me to the border".

You need a plan.

Keep in mind that the German bikers or whatever you hear about probably have Turks amongst them (Turks are a major immigrant group in Germany and elsewhere in Europe) so they have some local language and contacts. At the very least, they have Turkish contacts on the ground.

Your chance of just showing up and succeeding is nearly zero.

I am not making any promises and it might take me a month or two to get the money to do this but I am seriously thinking about going to Turkey crossing the border and volunteering to help the Kurds. Right now money is an issue I need to put back some more cash. But the military turned me down twice, once for medical and then legal stuff. I need to go out and do something with my life. Tomorrow I have to make some phone calls and see what my options are.
