    Probably. Time will tell though.

The XD is one design I've never even held let alone considered buying. Seems like a lot of folks like them so perhaps I should take a look. Same way with the S&W M&P line. I've got my Glocks, they work fine so just haven't looked at other stuff that I consider to be similar in design/looks.

If you have Glocks, no need to do an XD. It won't make you shoot better, your breath won't smell sweeter, you won't win the lotto more frequently. In the end handguns are handguns. If they go BANG and cycle the next round that's pretty much all we need.

I agree for the most part, glock definitely makes the better gun. The only XD I would take over the glock equivalent is the xd45 tactical, I'm not a fan of the G41

I'm an unashamed Springfield XD fanboy, but as others have said, its not a huge difference between them and the similar Glock and M&P. I prefer the grip and the trigger on the Springfields, and anytime I look at another polymer gun I end up with another Springfield.

I grew up with a Browning Hi-Power, and the grip on the Springfields is nearly identical. That was what initially turned me on to them.

The Springfields are already ergonomic, so I hope the new design improves on other aspects of the gun, such as reducing the number of parts, lowering the bore axis, and reducing the weight of the slide.

I don't have a good family portrait with me, but here they are all separate:

    XDs-9 3.3

    XD-45 Tactical "Bi-tone" (stainless)

XD-9 first gen (got this in 2004)

And one more thing, I've had two jams in a Springfield ever. One was when the spring wore out on the out-of-production first gen 15 shot 9mm magazine, and the other was when the barrel had water in it.

Had an XD, loved the ergos, but was not impressed with the overall design.

The Glocks are simpler and much easier to work on and the SF and Gen 4s solve most of the ergo complaints.

If they get rid of that terrible striker pin and the internal extractor I might be interested.

I don't like any of the gen 4's I hate the grip, it looks like a generic clone of a glock, Nor am I a fan of the g41's recoil spring setup.

I didn't like the look of the Gen4s but I found that I did like the feel, so I got over the look.

As for the Springfield; I've always said the XD is a gun for people who want a Glock but don't like Glock for any number of reasons. And for a time this was a pretty good piece of the market for Springfield to corner. However lately more non-Glockers have migrated to S&W which are very comfortable in the hand and are also looking at the new HKs which also have very good (some say exceptional) ergos. Thus Springfield is very wisely looking to evolve to stay competitive.

Unless the new XD fires plasma in the 40-watt range I'm still not interested but I always welcome innovation and competition in the market. This is because even if it's improving a product I'm not interested in, it'll probably force the product I am interested in to become better.

I love my XD. I like the function of a Glock, but it has the ergonomics of a poorly shaped brick, and the XD fits the hand in a way that JMB would approve of.

I have a XD compact in 45 ACP, love it... Bought it from a friend for $400 many years ago...

I recently got a 3rd Gen G23, police trade in. The trigger was horrible compared to the XD, it must be 10lbs... I swapped out the trigger bar thing and it is a lot better now... My XD is still my go to pistol tho...

Here it is. The XD mod 2:

It is parts and magazine compatible with the previous XD series.

    Definitely not awestruck.

But since its being reported that mod2 guns will cost the same as the old ones, I'll take the free upgrades.

I think it looks gaudy as fuck, but improved slide serrations and a grippier grip were things that needed to happen. My classic XD pistols are too slick. Also I'm glad they reduced the size of the take-down lever and slide stop, and threw in a fiber-optic front sight.

I've been teetering back and forth between a XD-9 tactical and a XDM 4.5, so maybe I'll wait for the mod 2 stuff to come out and see if they do a mod 2 tactical version.

Also, "GRIP ZONE" looks fucking retarded.

I'll agree it looks pretty gaudy, looks wise I'll take the originals. Agreed they are slick, I had a Hogue slip-on no mine, and one of the reasons I got rid of it. This does look like a better grip, but the cheesy "Grip Zone" silliness needs to go.

Never have been a fan of fiber optics. They are cool when you're sighting in but they give the gun a tacky low-rent look on an SD pistol. Great on .22 target pistol, not so much on a serious weapon.
