    East German VOLPO Luger

Here is a rare import. Just after the wall came down EG was so broke they floged off the border guard pistols.

The magazines were worth more than I gave for the pistol.

Why were the mags so expensive? Or was the gun that cheap? Just curious lugers aren't my thing but that sure looks like a nice one.

So, the E.G.'s went into manufaturing the Luger after the Nazi's ceased production of them because it was too time-consuming and expensive to make? Doesn't make a lot of sense, but that IS a nice looking piece.

Speaking of "bank"..............do you own one?

Why would they do that when they had thousands of P-08's on hand to re-furbish??

That is one of mine yes. If I post something that is not mine I would say so. You would I hope?

Oh I see, own a bank, LOL. I will have to check but I think so or maybe part of one or two. I get a lot of tickets to air shows, golf things a Pebble and car auctions at the Jet Center in the mail., I don't golf, fly or collect cars and it's not my good looks.

The DDR did make an attempt to produce the P08 but stopped after making a few hundred. Collectors consider these “Vopo” Lugers up and comers in value. Not up to the high end & dollars that matching original finished pre 45 bring but worthy to collect. I picked up an all matching 1940 with a replacement DDR barrel. Most have forced matched parts. They came with two numbered mags.

OK, that makes sense. I assumed you meant they started making them from scratch after the kommies took over. As poor as they were right out of the gate and up to the end, it just seemed they would go the cheap route and adopt Russkom designed weapons to begin with, which I guess is what they eventually did for the most part.

I don't golf either or much of anything as a hobby or recreation myself, other than guns, ammo, reloading, some militaria and preps. Probably why I can still afford what little I do have.
