This is why I live here

Broken windows all along grand, boarded up early this morning, now a goodly amount of people painting messages of peace and nice artwork on the boards. Kids playing on the sidewalk...all races. People shopping and chatting with strangers, most every store open. Church offering free meal to all, no police in sight...no reason for them.

I'll admit, makes me a bit misty.

They may break some crap at night, but we won't let them ruin our neighborhood.

Feel totally safe walking down Grand, feeling of love & community in the air.

Yes, multiculturalism will see St Lou through this.

It's what this neighborhood is all about. Can't speak for the rest of the city, but here it's very diverse. And right now they are all up on Grand cleaning up, making it pretty, and getting along. The American dream.

I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

It's nice to see people come together and make lemonade out of lemons.
"That tyranny has all the vices both of democracy and oligarchy is evident. As of oligarchy so of tyranny, the end is wealth; (for by wealth only can the tyrant maintain either his guard or his luxury). Both mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of their arms." -- Aristotle, Book V, 350 B.C.E

Yeah, not to mention they didn't come together during the lawlessness and make lemonade ....

If they had any love for their fellow man, they would have showed up in mass and said they weren't going to let the riots happen and stopped them. But where were they? Like Kad, they were at home worried about their own skin, and left the community to suffer the wrath of the corrupt lawless. Now that it's safe and they don't have to stand for anything, they can get out and just feel the love.

    What utter bullshit.

What you don't seem to get is it was peaceful protest for awhile. They marched down Grand, no incidents with police no property damage, they marched north and shut down the highway....not thrilled about that, but cars stopped including a semi that really got stuck out front. No damage, nobody pulled from cars.

The folks in the cars waited, police were nearby, no problems. After about an hour they were ordered off the highway and they left.

They headed back down Grand, going south and right at the entrance of all those buildings with shops, where the damage happened, the "leaders" called out saying it was a good night, peaceful protest, safe highway shutdown, time to call it a night.

Right then about 75% or so of the crowd left, went home or wherever.

That's why I thought it was done last night.

Then about 45 minutes later news that Ferguson is on fire, a few of the folks still milling around on Grand start busting windows. Others watching. Some yelling stop. Then the tear gas.

If that's what you thought, and if that what they thought, that everyone would just go home...what utter stupidity.
