Thumbs up Rand Paul agrees with Obama: Opening up Cuba is ‘a good idea’

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said the U.S. starting to trade with Cuba is “probably a good idea,” and the embargo against the country “just hasn’t worked.

The comments, made a day after President Obama announced a normalization in relations between the communist country and the United States, stand in stark contrast to the aggressive criticism of Mr. Obama’s move from many Republicans and potential 2016 GOP presidential contenders.

“The 50-year embargo just hasn’t worked,” Mr. Paul said in a radio interview on 800 WHVU in West Virginia, The Associated Press reported. “If the goal is regime change, it sure doesn’t seem to be working and probably it punishes the people more than the regime because the regime can blame the embargo for hardship.

Enough is enough. Time to drag Cuba into the next century, kicking and screaming if necessary.

Sounds like Pope Francis -- a Latin-American himself -- had much to do with this historic reconciliation process, working behind the scenes to broker a deal and make it happen:

Maybe we'll start seeing a bunch of those vintage 1950's Cuban automobiles flood U.S. markets once normal trade relations ensue...

I 'm ok with it. If we trade with the Saudis and the Chinese, why not the Cubans? The problem for me is that it was done by Obama-by executive fiat, in the middle of the night. Why? Whats his angle? I know there is something sneeky afoot.

Yeah, no kidding. For a "lame duck" term, Obama sure is flexing his muscle a lot by executive action lately.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Supreme Court stepped in and reversed him on some of his actions, but he seems like he's on a roll for now.

It's all about his "legacy" at this point. Not being remembered in history as a president who largely sat by and accomplished nothing of real note -- just a placeholder -- like Jimmy Carter.

Actually this was, essentially, middle of the night...spit in American faces/shit on long time Cuban immigrants...

Of course, LAGChickenshit is all for it...he's all for anything commie/socialist, though he will claim otherwise when it suits him.

The fact is, this is the final capitulation of America, proving it is a fully socialist/communist nation, as "fundamental transformation" promised.

As the President promised, we are being (and have been) fundamentally transformed. I just hope with a new Congress and soon a new President we can get back some of our prestige and start following our laws. It is a long shot, but a hope.

I thought you were supposed to be giving me the "silent treatment" from here on out? Couldn't resist?

In all seriousness though and sticking to topic: give the Cubans a real taste of capitalism again and regime change might be pretty fast coming.

Unlike China with all its natural resource wealth and entrenched Communist Party apparatus, Cuba is a very poor country and the leadership's grip on the nation is far more tenuous.

They could go ape-shit if they got a taste of McDonalds. Similar open market reforms are all it took for Communism to eventually fall in the Soviet Union.

As life is transformed into death, as healthy hosts are transformed by parasites sickness... cancer free transformed to cancer ridden.
