Something New for the AR Piston Lovers - The ARAK-21

Check this thing out. I know there are some guys on here who hate the DI gas system of the typical AR. This is a new take on a piston AR and is different from the others I have seen. I think it's kinda cool.

Interesting indeed. But way too much money for my taste. I'll have to score a big lotto win first.

All of the new semi autos coming out seem to be near 2k in price unfortunately. I think with the basic AR platform we are benefiting from decades of standardization or near standardization and large volume production for military use.

I thought the long stroke piston and bolt carrier were really neat. They weren't just a modification tacked onto a standard rife it looks like a lot was re-designed to make it work which as an engineer I think is really cool. There was definitely some innovation there. I don't really care about the interchangeable barrels but some might. I do think a 7.62x39 upper mated to one of those new lowers that takes ak mags would be neat.

I saw one at a 3gun match already, ran fine but for that kind of money I'd rather have an arx100, or a tavor, or 3 n-paps

yeah HK I agree. school me on something. what is the difference or what makes the 300 b/o a better round than the 5.56?
I have read and heard it is not much, so why all the fanfare?

the attraction is that it is easier to suppress as you can load it sub-sonic very easily, not so with the 5.56. With supersonic loads you get performance around or slightly below the level of 7.62x39.
