I tell kids all the time that the best things in life, the things worth the most, the things they will value the most, are the things they work for. The things they sweat for. The things the struggle for. I have conversations every year about the value placed on things that are free. This is yet another part of the struggle to destroy America by the left. Make it free, and the educational standards placed on it will go lower. In my area, a lot of people already call community colleges 'community high schools'.....Saying they are easy, low quality. This will only make that worse. States will raise tuition rates to suck more from Uncle Sugars tit, taking more from US, they will not pay teachers any more, MORE students will end up in these schools, and it will truly be for the first time like a public high school. Over crowded, with tons of entitled shit heads who frankly don't belong there, miserable teachers, and ever increasing demands and blame from society on teachers for the poor quality of graduates.

The lottery funding for an associates degree that we use in my state works pretty well. If they could have a national system that was simalir, in which students who fail are kicked out and have to pay it back, then I don't see how this is any worse than government subsidized school loans.

In regards to public school being shitty, I blame that on school being mandatory, not state-funded. The shitheads would all CHOOSE to leave school if they had the option. And a lot of the worse behavior comes from students who want to force you to kick them out of class.

I can partially agree with your point about a lot of kids who are forced to come to school who do not want to, who end up acting out to get out. BUT, I have worked with a fair chunk of kids could care less about getting an education but want to come to socialize and cause trouble. We expell them, and they still try to come back during our lunch and passing periods to socialize.

Should be thrown out and arrested if they come back. They think they are gangsta......Then fine. Go show the world ghow gangsta you are reading at a 5th grade level. Just never come back. And never ask a tax payer for any handout. Piss off.

On another note, you're certainly not wrong about community college being shit quality. I myself went through a semester at one thinking it'd be easier to get a job welding, as my vocational school certification proved to be worth dick. WRONG! The teacher gave no fucks, I could already do everything they were "teaching" and more that they didn't have the right materials or equipment to teach and on top of it all they didn't even have a way to test the weld strength. Community college: for suckers and failures. Needless to say Obama and his Democrat cronies would be simply elated to have this country made up of that sort.

It must depend on the state and or college, I had a very good experience at community college. I have a bachelors degree and finished my education at the state school but went back and took a lot of GE classes at the local community college as they were a lot cheaper. I thought the quality of the education was top notch. I can't say the same for the GE classes that I took at the state school.

My experience has been the same with all the STEM courses I've taken so far at my local community college, although a couple social science and liberal arts courses I took were pretty damn easy for 3-credit classes -- but maybe they are that easy at 4-year schools as well. Many of the professors who teach at CC's teach at local universities and just moonlight at the CC"s for some extra scratch, since full-time faculty is fast becoming a thing of the past.

The main people I've found who bitch about the quality of community colleges are the suckers who paid twice as much tuition for spending all 4 years at a university and are now neck-deep in student loan debt they'll never be able to pay off because of it.

To get back on topic I think this is a terrible idea. Community college should be affordable and I am fine with it being subsidized. However, it should be expensive enough to the students that you are throwing away at least a hundred bucks when you drop a 3 unit class. If you are truly a low income minority trying to better yourself there are already enough programs out there to make it free for you. When I went to JC at the start of every semester there were a ton of "obama's sons" who would show up for the first week, collect all of the government incentives for going to college and then drop all of their classes. They probably sold the books which they got for free to white kids at a discount too. When there is no sacrifice required to go to school and there is no value associated with it there is no incentive to succeed. I saw tons of people who floundered and spent years and years taking and dropping classes at the JC making very little progress on their education. There was really no downside to this because it was so cheap. I personally thought the JC system was great, if you are motivated it is a great way to get your lower division credits out of the way at an affordable cost. You also get preferential transfer status to the 4 year. But you will only get out of it what you put into it.

Also Obama's comment about making it free if you are willing to work for it meaning a 2.0 GPA. That is fucking hilarious. That is a failing GPA at most institutions. Most places wouldn't grant you a degree with that low of a GPA and most 4 year colleges wouldn't take you.

If you wanted to make it free to people who work hard, make the minimum GPA a 3.5. If you really want to help disparaged minorities make their minimum GPA for free college a 2.75. Why lower the bar?

Your second is spot on. Understand, again, it will make CC's like public high schools. Free to the public, andone can come in. It is bestowing a RIGHT to some people, which is even scarrier, as when one of these sons acts out, or gets pissed at being withdrawn from a class they never attend, or they get an attitude at a professor for not giving them a D instead of an F, they can claim they are being denied their rights and sue over it. BELIEVE me. These days are coming if we go down this road.

Yes the student needs to be required to hold a certain GPA but beyond that it allows young adults a chance at a better education and an opportunity to contribute more to our society along with giving them a chance to have a better life.
