Bought some cheap compass a while back from ebay they were a buck for a hand full of them shipping included. Got them and put them away. They seemed all out of wack when i got them. Decided to pull them apart and see what was a matter. They are a simple piece of magnetized steel shaped on the bottom of a plastic disk that balances on a pin. Simple. The metal part was not lined up on most of them so i aligned it properly and glued it with superglue. Then glued the compass shut with superglue once the disk was dry. Now I have a dozen accurate, water proof compasses. For pocket change. You could make those little altoid tin survival kits using these and a few other items to give as gifts. Or chuck one in each ammo can before sealing the lid. You would have compasses everywhere and never be without one when the time came.
