HOLY SHIT! That web-site is full of some serious cognitive dissonance!
From their front page: "Were the Middle Ages, also known as the Dark Ages, characterized by oppression, ignorance, and backwardness in areas like human rights, science, health, and the arts?"
Let's see... petty "turf wars" between self-proclaimed "kings" who declared themselves rulers over all other peasants in their "kingdom", people dying en masse from Bubonic plague and other preventable diseases due to piss-poor sanitation, scientists being burned at the stake for daring to report observations that offended the Church...
Then again, there was some pretty magnificent fucking art in some of those Roman Catholic cathedrals, that's for sure.
Thanks for the laugh, PROBASCO. Great find! Haven't chuckled that hard in a LONG time!
"That tyranny has all the vices both of democracy and oligarchy is evident. As of oligarchy so of tyranny, the end is wealth; (for by wealth only can the tyrant maintain either his guard or his luxury). Both mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of their arms." -- Aristotle, Book V, 350 B.C.E
A good reminder to all of us. Thanks for sharing.
