Don't forget the right to have been in the country illegally for the last three years, pay no taxes, and yet be able to file a tax return for tax years 2012-2014 and get thousands of dollars in so called refunds.

The tax system is a welfare system in disguise and is now a retroactive one at that for Mexicans under the Obama Administration. Most people I talk to don't understand how one can not pay a cent in taxes and get thousands of dollars from the IRS as a so called refund. I guess this falls under what Kipling called the White Mans Burden.

Note that for purposes of this so called refund (to quote from Wikopedia) "a qualifying child can be a person's daughter, son, stepchild, or any further descendant (such as grandchild, great grandchild, etc.) or a person's brother, sister, half sister, half brother, stepbrother, stepsister, or any further descendant (such as niece, nephew, great-nephew, great-great-niece, etc."

At the individual level I think it comes down to a series of questions, i.e. I would rather live in the USA or [fill in the blank] -- for example I would rather live in the USA or Kenya or I would rather live in the USA or Mexico - and so forth. This criteria for greatness can produce interesting results. For example, in the past I never would have thought of Thailand as a great country, but dudes I know who retired there seem to like the place.

Nah, the national debt really isn't that big of a problem right now. This country could raise so much revenue if it really wanted to, so many options: national sales tax, VAT, treating capital gains as regular income instead of only 15%, transaction fees on every single stock market transaction, raising FICA taxes to make Medicare solvent, etc. etc. etc.

But of course, both political parties have found it's more politically expedient to just keep running up the Chinese credit card instead of being responsible and balancing our budget. It is a big waste, all those billions of dollars going down the tubes every year on interest payments, but no one wants to think beyond what's easiest to do today.

I wouldn't be opposed to a constitutional amendment forcing the Feds to have to balance their budget just like most states do. But I don't think the GOP really wants that, or they are going to have to agree to some painful tax hikes.

Because there's no way to balance the Federal budget at this point without cutting into S.S. and Medicare. It's called the "third rail" for a reason. Even the staunchest Tea Party senior would be up in arms if they tried to take away their Medicare.

There is one other way....end welfare.

The best way to do that is no one gets any welfare beyond 6 months. After 6 months, you either have a job or do without. These welfare checks would be payable only once to the same person, in their lifetime.

You never know. It just might be an incentive for kids to stay in school (or trade school) and get an education that will bring in some money....make an education justifiable to the illiterate masses, so to speak.

And as part of ending welfare, end the practice of giving tax "refunds" to people who don't pay taxes. The EITC constitutes the 3rd largest social welfare program in the U.S. and most people don't have a clue what the EITC is.

No one wants to face the reality that if we want to continue sending everyone over 62 years old a check and provide heavily discounted healthcare to seniors, taxes WILL need to be raised at some point.

Make a high school diploma a requirement to vote, and a requirement to ever get government aid whether thats state or fed. Then, say people can only get welfare benefits for a maximum of 4 years, and then they are off forever. 4 years is long enough to hit a trade school, get some kind of education or job training, and start earning your own way.

For the worthless pieces of shit that squeeze out a kid every 9 months for another fed check, tell them the kids all have to make a certain grade point average, or the check gets cut. Say they MUST get at least a 2.7 GPA, all the kids, or the check gets cut 20%. If any of the kids makes less than a 2.0, the bitch gets no check. Give the worthless shits an incentive to A, stop having kids and B, make their current 'crop' try in school more. Figure if the kids are gonna flunk out of school anyway, they likely will cost the state more in the long run anyhow, so the savings can go to pay for the needle for them or jailtime, depending on the depravity of the crime they commit. Something like 75% of all crimes in USA are from high school drop outs. So MY plan attempts to deal with the problem.
