I wonder what the twist rates are for the 16in bbl that didn't penetrate? As the round increases in velocity it spins faster in the barrel so a 20in bbl with a 1:12 rate my just be able to support level iii defeat, but a shorter bbl with a faster rate may be able to increase penetration over the same bl length with less rate.

I thought shooting 5.56 rounds out of a gun chambered for .223 was a no-no?

This ammo ban totally sucks, I should of saved a lot of m855. The price hikes are BS too. I'm going to be shooting a lot more 7.62x39 cause it's way cheap. Probably even run Tula .223 through the AR to save the brass cased stuff. Last time I went to the range xm855 reloads were giving 3 AR's problems. Some jams, some duds. So if m855 is going to be $1 or more a round why not just launch 68 68gr stuff for the price. Sucks to be all the brand new AR guys that didn't pile some ammo.
