How are You Storing Ammo for the Next Shortage?

I used to keep it in original boxes, but now I store it loose in ammo cans. It saves space and makes it easier to reduce moisture with desiccants.

All my AK ammo is loose in ammo cans with desiccant pouches. Most of my other ammo is in the boxes still. I keep all of those boxes in a big aluminum container with a couple of pouches in it. Then I have the random belt of shotgun ammo in my closet and under my bed. I would like to keep everything loose, I just don't have the space.

mine is in a ammo can with desiccant pouches and try and keep the
gasket around the can in good order.

clean them with mild soapy solution rinse allow to dry.
no sun or forced heat then rub in a little olive oil.
or, you can clean and dry, then use some of the automotive
protectants on the market.

I mostly keep range ammo loose in ammo cans since it makes loading magazines a lot easier. For my emergency back-up ammo supply (with the exception of my .22LR stash), I keep it new-in-box neatly stacked into ammo cans. As for the stash of .22LR, I keep it loose in a .50-cal can for maximum use of space in the can. I found that a .50-cal-sized ammo can will hold 6600 rounds of .22LR if loose.

I can't afford enough ammo to necessitate storing rounds loose in cans. Plus, I feel better having the ammo stacked neat and tidy in there anyway. My biggest gripe is when I don't have enough of the same size box to fill the can, or when it's such an odd size it won't properly arrange in a .30 can, .50 can, or even a fat .50!

One thing I have begun doing recently is brushing a thin coating of 100% silicone grease on the the gasket of the used cans I buy. The theory being it will revitalize the old gasket and improve the seal.

duly noted about the lube. as far as the odd box going in the .50 cal. can, you do know you have to open the tins
to get the ammo to go in the .50 box.....right?
