What kind of scope mount will get the scope to see over the fixed iron front sight on an AR? Thanks....chris

Imho you need a cantilever mount as a stanfard set of rings wont get the scope far forward enough and your cheekweld will be all jacked up. I believe you want fairly high rings too because there is no drop on thw stock. Leupold, larue and rra make a version of what i am talking about. I think they all make a version you can see the irons through
I thought this was gonna be a problem, but on mine, you don't even know the front sight is there while looking through the scope... I can't explain why...
Front sight it too close to be in focus i think it dissapearing is like when you hold a paper towell tube between yout hand and your eye and when you open both eyes you can see through your hand

This is what I used. When looking at the rifle, I thought this is'nt gonna work... But when I look through the scope, it's like the front sight is'nt even there...
Also Coppertales,
Although I am happy with my mount, I'm not saying you should buy this mount. I was only sharing my experience with not seeing the front sight.
You may want one with a quick detach lever or something.

Ive got two of these and im really happy with them. The larues are really popular too but a little more expensive
Seeing past a front sight with a rifle scope isn't a problem for the most part. Due to focal length of the optics you won't really be able to see the front sight, especially on higher magnification power. Now a simple red dot, that's a different story. You will see it when looking through the dot sight.
Thanks guys. Didn't think about the front sight just disappearing being so close to the scope. I am leaning toward this scope which has a cantlever mount.. http://www.cdnnsports.com/1-5-4x30-3...l#.VPSA4dJAKG1 I don't want to spend an arm and leg on a scope for this rifle. I have had good luck with the economical scopes in the past....chris
Well it looks nice, but obviously is made in China. You will get what you pay for IMO. I have one cheap scope on an FAL, it seems to hold zero but the optics aren't all that clear. I got what I paid for.
IF I were looking to scope a field grade AR rifle I'd get this Burris mount. http://www.brownells.com/optics-moun...ake_3=AR-15/M4
For a scope I'd look at this Leupold the first one at the top of the list a 1.5 to 4X (Currently Out of Stock) http://www.brownells.com/optics-moun...prod56258.aspx or this Burris http://www.brownells.com/optics-moun...prod54570.aspx The 1 to 4x model first on the page.
Nice scope and mount but out of my price range. This AR rifle is my short range rifle. I have others that will reach out and touch someone at longer ranges. Besides, these old eyes aren't up to it any more. That is the reason I bought another shotgun. If the cheaper scopes have a deceint cross hair setup and can focus ok,and hold zero, they work for me. At my age I am not looking at a long time investment. My old steel tube Weavers have been serving me for over 50 years and keep on working just fine. My long range rifle is a Mosin Nagant M39 with a Burris pistol scope, which I stole off one of my Contender barrels. It will shoot less than one inch groups if I do my part.
