French Submarine 'Sinks'Entire US Aircraft CarrierGroup During Wargames

A series of joint naval drills between the United States and France recently didn't quite turn out the way the US, no doubt, expected. The practice scenario ended with the French nuclear submarine that was acting the part of an enemy ship "sinking" the American aircraft carrier and most of its escort.
The exercises took place over 10 days starting in mid-February off the coast of Florida. The French nuclear attack submarine (SNA) — named Saphir — joined US Carrier Strike Group 12, comprising the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (nicknamed the "Big Stick"), several Ticonderoga cruisers or Arleigh Burke destroyers and a Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine.

I've to wonder about this. Years ago a Chinese sub allegedly surfaced in the midst of a cbg, you may remember that one. In my mind it would be better to say you didn't see/hear an enemy sub sneaking in, even allowing one to surface nearby, and keep quiet about your capabilities. Then again, maybe the Chinese and French subs did get past all our expensive toys.

Hummm, I'm not too sure I'd trust that news site. It appears to be Russian and they may be stretching things to make us look weak or incompetent.

Not saying this event didn't happen; it just doesn't appear to be an unbiased source for news....

Maybe the object of letting an "enemy" sub surface near your group is to allow you to instantly scan it's capabilities and other important military info? They think they sneaked in when in fact you knew they were coming and more than happy to read their signals as they approached?

As for computer war games, I can program in any scenario as well as how the final outcome turns out.

Impossible. Everyone knows within minutes of seeing the ship the French would have wet pants and surrendered!

hmm curious I thought Carrier battle groups had a sub or two as escort. Turns out they do not. Just some anti-sub destroyers.

Ironically France has escort subs in their carrier battle groups.
