(Reuters) - Israel's center-left opposition is poised for an upset victory in next week's parliamentary election, with the last opinion polls before Tuesday's vote giving it a solid lead over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's party.

Final polls published by Israel's Channel 10 and Channel 2 on Friday evening respectively predicted the Zionist Union would win 24 and 26 seats against 20 and 22 for Netanyahu's Likud, echoing earlier surveys which all gave the opposition a clear lead.

Polls in two of Israel's leading newspapers predicted the Zionist Union would secure 25 or 26 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, against 21 or 22 for Likud. All polls in the past three days have given the same margin of victory.

No party has ever won an outright majority in Israel's 67-year history, making coalition-building critical to the formation of a government.

Netanyahu has been a thorn in the side of U.S. State Department interests for quite some time, blatantly undermining the work our diplomats have been trying to piece together to try to salvage some semblance of peace in the Middle East.

It's high time some calmer heads prevailed over there, get all parties back to the table talking, instead of endless threats, warfare, and strife.

Our relationship with Israel will only be stronger with Netanyahu's outster, as Israeli finally works with us in terms of foreign policy instead of against us for a change.

You have to admit it's a very dangerous situation for Israel when their only steadfast ally in the world is on the verge of abandoning them due to their so-called leader alienating one of the two major political parties that regularly gains control of said ally country.

It would have been just as bad if an Israeli leader went behind President Bush and the Republicans and tried to negotiate a special deal with the Democrats. You just don't play those kind of political games with your staunchest ally.

I know polls showed that most Israelis favored both McCain and Romney in our previous elections, but I think its a bit different now seeing how badly Netanyahu has completely alienated the entire Democratic Party.

Because one thing is as sure as the sun does rise: just as the Republicans did in 2010 and 2014, the Democrats will be back in full control within a few years time, once everyone gets sick of the Republicans again. Not a good situation to be in when you've put all your eggs in the other basket.
